House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she would not seek re-election as the Democratic leader after nearly two decades in power, and conservatives gleefully celebrated her abdication of the position.
“With great confidence in our caucus, I will not seek re-election to Democratic leadership in the next Congress,” she announced on the House floor on Thursday.
“For me, the hour has come for a new generation to lead the Democratic caucus that I so deeply respect, and I’m grateful that so many are ready and willing to shoulder this awesome responsibility.”
Pelosi’s 35-year congressional career as San Francisco’s representative isn’t over, but she will no longer hold a position of power on any House committees when Congress reconvenes in 2023.
She was lauded for her service by present and past lawmakers, including President Biden, who said “History will note she is the most consequential Speaker of the House of Representatives.”
Former President Barack Obama, who remarked that she spent her tenure “breaking barriers, opening doors for others, and working every day to serve the American people.”
While liberals had nothing but kind words about Pelosi’s legacy as House Speaker, conservatives celebrated the end of her reign.
The Five co-host Jesse Watters pointed out that he didn’t care that the red wave didn’t materialize as the midterms, as long as it means Pelosi is stepping aside.
“She leaves a really just vicious legacy from corruption to Obamacare, to all kinds of shenanigans and reckless spending, and the Republicans are going to put a brake on the reckless spending,” the Fox News star commented.
“Nancy Pelosi not being speaker anymore makes the 2022 election cycle a huge win for Republicans,” comedian Tim Young reacted.
“Nancy Pelosi is shown bi-partisan respect and media fawning despite her wretched reign over the House. She was no uniter,” wrote conservative radio host Mark Levin.
“She never demonstrated respect for our system. She always had a nasty comment. So, the rewriting of her true legacy begins already. A sham.”
Many of the comments fixated on Pelosi’s vast net worth and stock trading history, which was heavily scrutinized in June, when her husband bought over a $1 million in a computer chip company, just weeks before congress voted to subsidize the industry.
“Nancy Pelosi is an example of why we need Term Limits,” TPUSA ambassador Kambree Nelson posted. “She’s been in office 35 years and became a multimillionaire being a career politician.”
“When I think of Nancy Pelosi, I think of insider trading,” added former congressional candidate Lavern Spicer. “Nancy Pelosi stepping down. Hunter Biden is being investigated. Let the fun begin.”
“Nancy Pelosi is a vile human being that has enriched her family by robbing yours. She will not be missed,” wrote author Andrew Pollack.
Others commented on her preoccupation with destroying former President Donald Trump through repeated impeachment attempts.
“Nancy Pelosi is the only House Speaker in history to abuse her office to try to jail her party’s political enemies,” said author Tom Fitton.
“Nancy Pelosi is the most corrupt Speaker of the House in US History,” added Brigitte Gabriel.
“Nancy Pelosi has spent 35 years using her position to game the system and amass great wealth for herself. She is everything that is wrong with PERMANENT GOVERNMENT in America. Bye bye Nancy. We don’t need you and we won’t miss you,” posted another.
While liberals were focused on Republican members of Congress failing to show up or clap for her announcement, conservatives were quick to remind the public that Pelosi didn’t care about disrespecting Trump by ripping up his State of The Union speech in early 2020.
“Nancy Pelosi refused to treat the President with respect. Good riddance Crazy Nancy! No more ripping up historical documents in front of the nation behind Trump’s back,” tweeted actor Randy Quaid.
“Some down here are calling Republicans classless because they didn’t stand and clap for Nancy Pelosi after her speech today,” posted political columnist Joe Concha. “The same House Speaker who showed such class when tearing up a State of the Union speech in 2020? OK then…”
Though some conservatives wished her well… Kind of. “Happy retirement, Nancy Pelosi. You made millions from your time in office by cheating the system. You are what’s wrong with American politics,” someone wrote.
“Elections have consequences,” added another. “Pelosi set new standards for political football moving, house rules and impeachment, just as she did last time she was speaker. Now the tables are turned, bring it on.”
“While she might not be in leadership anymore… Nancy Pelosi isn’t going anywhere,” someone pointed out. “She’s gonna stick around in congress for all that sweet sweet insider trading.”
One person consoled themselves by reminiscing about the time the 45th president grounded Pelosi’s plane during the 2019 government shutdown.
“When I think about all the damage Nancy Pelosi has done, I remember when Trump left her on the tarmac and the entire nation was laughing. I find that helps a lot,” the BradFordFile posted.
