President Joe Biden was compared to a “creepy” horror movie villain for staring through a glass window while a pair of young girls took a series of selfies with him on Saturday.
The president went shopping in Nantucket with first lady Jill Biden over the holiday weekend during Small Business Saturday when he took the selfie in question.
He casually strolled past the Lemon Press Juice Shop, while flanked by Secret Service agents and slurping a drink through a straw.
Biden stopped in his tracks when he heard a group of children screaming his name from inside the store and veered from his path to peer inside at the excited young girls.
“There’s Joe! Oh my God, hi Mr. President!” The children bellowed at Biden as he meandered towards the glass pane window and lowered his aviator sunglasses to smile and wave at them.
While his actions were totally innocent, the resulting viral photos were dubbed “cringe” and “creepy,” for how the president appeared to be peeping through a window at two unsuspecting young girls without the context of the video.
“Biden enjoying a little window shopping is creepy AF,” a Twitter user posted.
“This should be an advertisement for SimpliSafe,” one person wrote.
“At least the girls were protected from him by a window,” added someone else.
“Of course he stops to look at little girls! He just wanted a little sniff,” another tweeted.
“Don’t open the door, kids,” somebody snarked.
Liberals were chuffed by Biden’s window pane greeting. “I think it’s absolutely charming that they call him Joe,” one replied.
“That tells me that he’s a regular person to them and not some weird alien. That’s what I love about him. It’s his humanity that shows through everything he does. I like the guy.”
“I love this!! It’s so adorable!! If I was there I would be doing the same thing!” Wrote another. “I believe this younger generation will save America!”
Woke Twitter was outraged that writer Ian Thompson posted the still of the President and called for his firing, despite the internet coming up with their own opinions about Biden appearing to be a “creepy old man.”
“NYT should fire Thompson over this description of what happened, which fueled disgusting posts on the right. He didn’t “photobomb” anything,” someone commented.
“These kids called for President Biden, and as he came over, excitedly got a selfie with him.”
“Quit spreading lies,” another defended. “This is clearly disproven by the widely available video that shows the girls tapping on the window to get Biden to come over for a selfie.”
“This is the world we live in,” complained Janice Hough.
“President Biden made some kids’ day, and gave them a great story they’ll tell their whole lives when he stopped for a selfie in Nantucket. Right wing media is saying it’s an example of him being ‘creepy.'”
Biden’s “weird” interactions with women in the past were likely the reason the internet called the President “creepy” for gazing at the young girls through a window.
Many of the comments mentioned “hair sniffing,” in reference to former Nevada state assemblywoman Lucy Flores’ and former Democratic aide Amy Lappos’ 2019 accusations that he acted inappropriately by sniffing one and rubbing noses with the other.
In a follow-up statement, Biden said: “Not once—never—did I believe I acted inappropriately. If it is suggested I did so, I will listen respectfully. But it was never my intention.”
In April of the same year, liberal comedian Trevor Noah joked that “basically what Biden is saying is, ‘Look, I didn’t mean to make these women uncomfortable, but I am willing to listen.”
“I’m gonna listen real close. Just gonna lean in there nice and close, maybe just get a little sniff.”
He also accused Biden of blatantly targeting women with the odd behavior.
“Let me put it this way,” Noah remarked. “If rubbing noses was just Biden being cute, and being a harmless grandpa, how come you’ve never seen him do it with men?”
Noah conceded that smelling hair is “always weird,” even two people are in a relationship.
“Honestly, smelling hair is one of the creepiest things you can do,” he concluded.
“It’s on the list of creepy things; it’s right after collecting doll parts and sneezing with your eyes open.”
