Twitter users trashed the CIA for a “re-branding” post celebrating thier LGBTQ+ spooks.
“CIA’s 2023 theme for #Pride Month is WELCO-ME! Wellness, Equity, LGBTQ+, Community, Openness, ME!” the agency tweeted on Thursday.
“Pride Month is an occasion for all of us at the Agency to pay tribute to the rich history, community, and mission contributions of our LGBTQ+ officers.”
Washington Free Beacon investigative reporter Chuck Ross immediately called out the agency’s hypocrisy by sharing a 1980 memo titled “Homos*xual Investigations.”

The memo is a veritable how-to guide to identify and covertly evaluate subjects the agency suspected of being gay at the time.
“One of the most common mistakes made by the average person is the conviction that he can recognize a homos*xual on sight,” the memo reads under “The Subject” section.
“This is similar to recognizing a Communist. The subject has a mental or emotional problem rather than a physical one. There is no way to spot a homos*xual.”
The memo notes that “the homos*xual has a problem” with his s*xual preference and consciously leads a double life to avoid detection.
“Our subject leads a Jekyll-Hyde existence, constantly cautious, constantly aware tat his “Mr. Hyde with be exposed,” the document continues.
The memo also included a section titled “What is a h*mo,” which explains how it’s not uncommon for two extremely effeminate or masculine men to engage in s*xual relations with each other.
“Investigatively, it is a serious error to believe that these people fall into set patterns or categories – they are abnormal mentally and emotionally; their behavior patterns are , therefore, completely abnormal and unpredictable.”
“This you,” Ross replied to the CIA’s pride post. “You may be shocked to learn that the CIA has not always been an ally of the LGBTQ+ community.”
“Just my opinion based on this 1980 memo with sections like “What is a h*mo?” He added.
“I think no one would be shocked because government discrimination against and targeting of homos*xual is widely known,” someone responded.
Journalist Glenn Greenwald said that the agency’s pride push was a brilliant marketing strategy.
“Re-branding US foreign policy and the US intelligence agencies, including the CIA, as a crusade for LGBTQ2AI+ rights is a truly genius feat of marketing,” he wrote.
“It’s one of the reasons – not the only – that US liberals now regards the CIA and US foreign policy as so benevolent.”
Donald Trump Jr. was baffled by the post. “How is this not a parody account???” He tweeted.
Twitter owner Elon Musk got quippy about the agency’s clandestine behaviors. “I thought the CIA liked being the closet lol,” he joked.
“The CIA is a woke spa, not a spy agency to protect America from foreign infiltration,” Fox News host Laura Ingraham added.
“Why don’t you “come out” with the JFK files?” Conservative commentator Benny Johnson piled on.
Plenty of other folks had jokes about the agency’s tweet.
“When did the CIA care about Openness?” One person teed up. “When it became a cover,” someone shot back.
“Will you be waterboarding with a rainbow flag this month?” Another questioned.
“I thought this was parody, then I remembered that it is 2023,” somebody else wrote.
“Nothing about your agency is a source of Pride,” Bleu Cheque posted.
While another person simply added to the agency’s acronym. “CIA+,” they tweeted.
