Tom Hanks believes that if former President Trump secures a second term, it could indicate that America’s “journey to a more perfect union has missteps in it.”
“I think there’s always reason to be worried about the short term,” the “Forest Gump” star said during an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Thursday.
His remark was a response to Amanpour questioning if he had concerns about the nation’s “commitment to democracy and freedom” if Trump retakes the White House in November.
“But I look at the longer term of what happened. I think there’s an ongoing — look, our Constitution says, ‘We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union,’ — that journey to a more perfect union has missteps in it,” the liberal actor added.

“Over the long term, however, we inevitably made progress towards, I think, that more perfect union,” Hanks continued. “And how does it come about?”
“It comes about not because of somebody’s narrative of who was right, or who was a victim or not,” he added.
Hanks proselytized that the perfect union is made from the “slow melding of the truth” into the “practical life that we end up living,” adding that it all boils down to doing good deeds for your neighbor.
“I will always have faith that the United States of America, and the Western societies that have adopted more or less the same sort of democracy, cannot help but turn towards what is right,” he told Amanpour.
The conversation took place in Normandy, France, where President Biden was commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day with military veterans.
Biden appeared to be confused throughout the entire day, make several gaffes and having difficulties figuring out whether he should sit or stand, and misspeaking about Ukraine’s war against Russia.

“They’ve suffered tremendous losses with Russia – the numbers are staggering, 350,000 Russian troops dead or wounded,” he said at one point.
In an interview with ABC, Biden claimed that he has known Russian President Vladimir Putin “for over 40 years,” which would have made them acquainted while Putin was an undercover KGB officer in the 1980s.
Meanwhile, liberal late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has been actively fundraising for the Biden campaign.
“Hi, it’s Jimmy Kimmel,” the comedian introduced himself in a Biden Victory Fund email. “I host a ‘poorly rated’ show on TV that Donald Trump hate-watches.”
Kimmel then informed potential donors of a chance to win a seat at a “star-studded Biden campaign fundraiser this month in Los Angeles featuring him, George Clooney, and Julia Roberts.”
“Trump will hate this, so let’s do it!” the email encouraged. “Our democracy may not survive another four years of a Trump presidency. As our President might say ‘That’s no joke, man.’”

Earlier this week, Vice President Harris’s recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was interrupted by pro-Palestinian protesters.
“15,000 children dead because of you!” a protester yelled at Harris on Tuesday night. “Stop the genocide!”
“You’re a murderer!” another screamed.
“Kamala Harris. Please stop sending money to Israel!” someone else urged.
Kimmel acknowledged the disruption, apologizing to the vice president for the protesters antics.
Anti-war group CodePink essentially took credit with a video the posted, where a person outside of the shot could be heard ask if there was anyone else with “anything to say, this is the time.”
The protesters were eventually escorted out of the audience, with music played to cover up their chanting.
According to a release from CodePink, the protesters represented several groups including Chino Valley 4 Palestinian Liberation, Palestinian Christians for Justice, Pasadena for Palestine, and Claremont Graduate Students for a Free Palestine.
The organization stated that security approached some protesters before Harris met with Kimmel and “forced them to leave.”
Once the vice president was being interviewed by the host, the protesters “set off a chain of disruptions” that the group claimed led to the “illegal detainment and physical assault of some of the activists by security.”
During her appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Harris discussed topics such as Roe v. Wade being overturned, Trump’s attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and his recent conviction.
