“Euphoria” actress Sydney Sweeney was lambasted on Instagram when she shared pictures from a birthday party she surprised her mother with last week.
Sweeney and her brother Trent were attacked for sharing images from the hoedown they threw for their mother’s 60th birthday on Friday, when the photos revealed that guests were wearing red MAGA-themed hats that said, “Make Sixty Great Again.”
The “Madam Web” star also posted a photo of a man who seems to be dressed in a Blue Lives Matter t-shirt, while he posed with Sweeney and her mother.
The liberal uproar over the posts was so insane, that the “Sharp Objects” actress accused haters of “making assumptions” about her family.
“You guys this is wild,” she wrote over the weekend. “An innocent celebration for my [mom’s] milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!”
Sweeney’s post only managed to enrage Twitter trolls further. “If you post a photo of yourself wearing a Swastika is it wrong to assume you’re a Nazi?” One person replied. “You’re not responsible for your family’s bigoted beliefs but it’s ridiculous for you to claim people are “making assumptions” when the shirt literally is a political statement.”
“Your family is gross for supporting Trump,” another remarked. “Your brother has publicly supported him in the past and your parents obviously do because they wouldn’t wear hats like those if they didn’t. Quit enabling and making excuses for the fact that they’re bad people like you.”
A Los Angeles DJ Bella Ferrada accused Sweeney of being a “racist” and a “Karen” in the comments of the actress’s post.
“All I see are red hats and red flags,” Ferrada replied. “Girl bye, this explains why you got so scared when my Mexican boyfriend was trying to fix lighting by you at the HCA awards and you freaked out and had your bf come shooo him while he was just doing his job and has no idea who you even are… [Why] were you so scared? It’s giving Karennnn.”
