90’s James Bond star Pierce Brosnan was sentenced on Thursday for trespassing in a restricted area of Yellowstone National Park last year.
The “Tomorrow Never Dies” actor originally pleaded not guilty to charges of illegally hiking in an off-limit section of the Mammoth Terraces hot springs on January 4.
He was charged with trespassing and disregarding closure signs when he strayed off the designated walkways, which carried fines of up to $5,000 and six months in jail, despite being classified as “petty offense/misdemeanors.”
On Thursday, Brosnan admitted to straying off the marked path and recklessly trekking through the snow towards the hot springs, in exchange for prosecutors dropping the charge for ignoring closure signs.
Actor Pierce Brosnan on Thursday pleaded guilty and fined $1,500 for going off-trail and stepping onto a restricted area in Yellowstone last November. The actor said he felt "highly embarrassed and ashamed" calling it a "foolish, foolish thing to do." https://t.co/RQ9I2XQY1j

According to the BBC, he was ordered to pay a $1,500 fine, which will be allocated towards non-profit that is dedicated to taking care of Yellowstone.
The incident allegedly took place in November 2023 when a photo of Brosnan giving the peace sign while he posed in front of the snow-caked hot springs was posted by an Instagram account that was created to shame Yellowstone’s “tourons” (tourist morons).
The account, which has nearly half-a-million followers, pointed out that geothermally heated water flows to the surface at temperatures around 175F, which can flow, gurgle, or spout out of the ground in scalding geysers.
The trespassing laws are in place to protect the park and the millions of annual visitors, as 22 people have been killed by burns they sustained from getting to close to the hot springs since 1980.
A 70-year-old Los Angeles man died in July 2022, when he got perilously close to the Abyss Pool, in the West Thumb Geyser Basin, which is super-heated to 140F and one of the deepest hot springs in Yellowstone.
Il Hun Ro was not seen going near the hot spring, but his foot was found still in its shoe two weeks later, when it was found floating in the water.

A 20-year-old woman survived, but was seriously injured after being burned by the scorching hot water when she leapt into the Maiden’s Grave Spring to rescue her dog, who later succumbed to its injuries.
The Tourons of Yellowstone account is chock full of idiotic people making ridiculously bad decisions while out in the wild.
Their most recent post showed a man being escorted from the park after he was caught standing 20 feet away from a full grown male Grizzly bear while drinking a beer.

Yellowstone bars drinking, and requires visitors to keep a minimum distance of 100 yards from bears for their own safety.
Another video shows a pair of tourists getting feet away from a bison who was resting his head on an elevated walkway.

They decide to get perilously close to take a photo, when the bison hops onto the walkway and sends them fleeing.
“Tourons getting up way too close and personal with a bull bison in Yellowstone!” the post was captioned.
“That touron got LUCKY!!!! Give the bison their space and don’t be stupid. That majestic creature could head butt you into Timbuktu!”
One elderly woman felt the ramifications of her too-close encounter, when an angry bison head butted her in torso, easily sending her flying several feet back. “You mess with the bull… You get the horns,” Tourons warned.
And finally, in compilation video of deer gone wild, adult elk with full racks of antlers are seen attacking people and vehicles that made the mistake of getting to close, or just existing in their space.
In one clip, a young elk repeatedly rams into the front of a parked car, while another goes after the security vehicle attempting to shoo him away.

One angry bull lets out a vicious howl and charges at a white Hyundai Santa Fe that barely escapes the assault, and another runs into a screaming crowd of tourists that were attempting to get a selfie.
