Drew Barrymore told Vice President Kamala Harris that the world needed her to be America’s mother in an especially cringey moment on Monday.
Harris made a campaigns stop on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” but rather than talking politics the interview heavily fixated on her marriage to second gentleman Doug Emhoff and her stepchildren who refer to her as “Momala.”
The vice-president described how she approaches step-parenthood by acknowledging that Emhoff’s two children have “that one mother” and she’s the “second mother.”
“When the adults are really clear about a commitment to mature relationships it make it so much easier for the kids,” she remarked. “Because children don’t want to choose.”
Howard Stern refers to Joe Biden as the “Father of the Country.”
Drew Barrymore says Kamala needs to be our “Momala”.
Who exactly is in a cult? These people aren’t looking for a leader they’re looking for surrogate parents.

“It’s just not fair to them to put them in a situation where – intentionally or not – they’re being manipulated around the adult’s weird relationships with each other.”
Barrymore, who was sitting ridiculously close to Harris on the interview couch decided Harris’ comments were an incredible segue into one of the strangest statements of all time.
“I keep thinking in my head, we all need a mom,” Barrymore began. “I’ve been thinking that we really all need a tremendous hug in the world right now, but in our country, we need you to be ‘Momala’ of the country.”

Harris nodded along awkwardly and couldn’t seem to formulate a response, but Barrymore made it weirder by grabbing both of her hands and urging her to rise to the occasion.
“And as a woman who respects so much, and wants to share — wants to be confident, and has no ounce of me that has competitiveness yeah when we lift each other up we all rise,” she continued.
Barrymore believes that the nation needs “a great protector,” which Harris responded to with a reflection on strength.
“Sadly, over the last many years, there’s been this kind of perverse approach to what strength looks like,” the vice president replied as Barrymore ate it up.
“Which is to suggest that the measure of one’s strength is based on who you beat down, instead of what we know the true measure of your strength is based on where you lift up.”

Social media users were deeply disturbed by the interview, with one writing that it “has got to be one of the cringiest things I’ve ever seen.”
“Drew Barrymore is gaslighting, NO ONE wants Kamala Harris to be “Momala” for the country,” added conservative author Brigitte Gabriel.
“Your childhood must have been utterly f–ked up if you think Kamala should be the nation’s “Momala,” someone insulted the star. “Go to therapy and stop voting.”
Apparently ‘Cackling Kamala Harris’ thinks people love to talk about the way she laughs.
We don’t. We just have to point out how annoying it is. She sounds like a hyena.
And why is Drew Barrymore sitting so close to her?
She might as well straddle her and get it over with. pic.twitter.com/C4Tr1GOKSK

Elsewhere in the show, Harris addressed her distinctive laugh and how it has been widely criticized.
“Apparently some people like to talk about the way I laugh,” she told the show’s host.
“I have my mother’s laugh, and I grew up, around a bunch of women in particular, who laughed from the belly. They would sit around in the kitchen drinking their coffee, telling big stories with big laughs.”
Harris acted out a coquettish laugh and said that she’s “not that person.”
“I think it’s really important for us to remind each other, and our younger ones, don’t be confined to other’s people’s perception about what this looks like and how you should act in order to be. It’s important,” Harris concluded.
Podcaster Megyn Kelly blasted Harris over her “performative” conversation with Barrymore.
“It’s classic Kamala Harris trying to offer fake profundities with her fake affect when she’s saying nothing,” Kelly said on Monday.
“She delivers her normal air sandwich and even worse is Drew Barrymore leaning in, she must be three inches away from Kamala Harris.”
“I feel like Secret Service is probably like ‘a little farther away, madam,’” she added.
Kelly noted that while Harris’ laugh is “a little odd,” that the mocking comes from the laugh being “deployed at very odd times.”
“She uses it… maybe as a deflection or a protective mechanism. She laughs at the wrong times,” Kelly noted, adding that she hates “everything about this clip.”
“No one gives a s–t that she got the laugh from the mother,” she concluded. “What you’re seeing up there is entirely performative by both women.”
