Former Fox News hosts Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly criticized the Democratic Party on for trying to market Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as the nation’s new parental figures.
Carlson appeared on Kelly’s SirusXM podcast on Thursday, and the titular host noted that Democrats are attempting to rebrand 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris as “Momala” and her VP pick, Tim Walz, as “America’s dad.”
Carlson found this idea ridiculous and cackled as he called the branding attempt “so sick.”
Kelly mentioned that it appears Democrats are seeking new parent figures due to a lack of good ones in their own lives.
She questioned why society feels the need for politicians to fill parental roles, as most people are not looking for new parents in their lives.
“And I do wonder, like, what’s wrong with us? Because most of us don’t need new parents and aren’t looking to some politician to step into the breach,” Kelly commented.
She suggested that Walz is missing the masculine presence that former President Donald Trump and his running mate J.D. Vance possess.
She referenced commentary by CNN’s Dana Bash, who said that Democrats are trying to appeal to men who don’t fit the “testosterone-laden, gun-toting” stereotype.
Carlson criticized Doug Emhoff by pointing out his daughter’s appearance at the convention, saying that anyone with a daughter who appears unhappy and covered in tattoos shouldn’t hold political power.
“Because you’ve messed up enough. Do you know what I mean?” Carlson remarked.
He added that a politician’s personal life matters and that a lack of familial love and respect should disqualify someone from holding control over the public’s life.
“If you do t have a spouse who loves and respects you, if you don’t have children who love and respect you, I feel sorry for you,” he said.
“But you definitely can’t have control over my life because you have not done a good job.”
Kelly brought up a Politico headline that called Emhoff the “Dad-in-Chief” and expressed her disgust, citing his alleged extramarital affair with his children’s nanny, which reportedly resulted in a pregnancy.
Kelly remarked that it is sickening to accept someone like Emhoff as a father figure when her own father was faithful and never had an abortion with someone he had an affair with.
“This guy who cheated on his first wife by banging the nanny, impregnating her, and there was either an abortion or an abdomen child. And they actually want us to swallow him as our dad,” she hissed.
“This is sick!” She added. “Why are they looking at these men as like, their new daddy figures?”
Carlson claimed that Democrats prioritize the party over individuals, focusing on loyalty to the collective rather than personal relationships.
“And, that collective, in their view, should replace everything else. And should be subject of your first and primary loyalty,” he stated.
Elsewhere in the interview, Carlson took responsibility for encouraging J.D. Vance to make his infamous remarks about “childless cat ladies.”
Carlson admitted that he has a tendency to say mean things and regretted his role in Vance’s comment.
“The childless cat lady thing I felt bad about,” he told Kelly. “I haven’t looked at the tape again, but I’m pretty sure I egged him on to say something like that, and I think it’s a mean thing.”
“I think I’m responsible for that, and I have a tendency to get way over my skis and get mean, and I regret that,” Carlson continued. “It’s very ugly, and I’m ashamed of the many, many times when I’ve said nasty things like that.”
Carlson expressed sympathy for people who don’t have children as his bring him such joy.
“I feel sorry for childless people, whether they have cats or not, and I mean it as someone who has four children who are the root of my happiness. I really feel compassion,” he explained.
Carlson soft side wasn’t reserved for Walz, who he described as a “creep,” implying that he knew the type of person Walz really is.
“I’m just telling you that as someone who went to boarding school in the ’80s, like I know exactly who that guy is. And I’m sorry. It’s just, you know, I hope I’m wrong. I don’t think I am.”
Despite admitting he shouldn’t make claims without evidence, Carlson continued to imply negative things about Walz.
Kelly then questioned Walz “obsession” with allowing children to express their gender identity.
Carlson shared his perception of Walz, asserting that his gut feeling tells him Walz is abnormal and disagreeing with those who consider him normal.
“There’s something wrong with that guy. He’s a weirdo. And you can tell watching him,” he asserted.
“And I’m sorry, I just lived long enough that I know that your gut level perceptions are rooted in truth.”
Carlson circled back to Vance, defending him from Walz, who has called him “weird.” He described Trump’s running mate as having a happy, normal marriage and caring about his wife and children.
“You can’t say that for almost any other politician on either side,” he alleged.
Carlson pointed out the importance of encouraging people to have children, noting that parenthood is a primary source of happiness throughout history.
“And if we’re discouraging that or making it impossible for people to have kids, that’s on us, that’s a major sin, and we should try to make it better,” he concluded.
