Radically liberal actress Jane Fonda received the SAG Life Achievement Award at the SAG Awards on Sunday night, and dedicated her speech to advocating for “wokeness” and urging Hollywood to adopt an anti-Trump stance.
Without naming President Donald Trump outright, Hanoi Jane made less-than veiled criticisms about his administration during her lengthy tirade.
She lauded people who have the ability to express empathy for others, describing it as “not weak or woke,” but simply a choice to “give a damn about other people.”
Her remarks, referencing actors playing bullies and empathizing with their troubling backstories, segued into actor Sebastian Stan’s portrayal of a young Trump in “The Apprentice.”
Empathy is not weak or "woke." And, by the way, "woke" just means you give a damn about other people."

Fonda referred to the president as a “traumatized person,” suggesting Stan relied on empathy to research and understand the role.
Expanding on the theme, she warned that “a whole lot of people are going to be hurt” by coming challenges and stressed the importance of uniting.
“We are going to need a big tent to resist what’s coming at us,” Fonda remarked about Trump’s next four year’s in the White House.

Surprisingly, she also called on fellow liberals to extend empathy to Trump’s supporters, encouraging understanding rather than judgment.
“Even if they are of a different political persuasion, we need to call upon our empathy and not judge, but listen from our hearts,” she added.
She incorporated her long-standing activism into the address, expressing the importance of standing together during uncertain times.
“Community means power, and this is really important right now when workers’ power has been attacked and community is being weakened,” said Fonda, highlighting the critical role unions play in “having our backs.”

Comparing current political tensions to the McCarthyism-era Hollywood blacklist, she recalled resistance within the industry during the late 1950s.
“I made my first movie in 1958. It was at the tail end of McCarthyism, when so many careers were destroyed. Today, it’s helpful to remember, though, that Hollywood resisted,” Fonda said, drawing parallels to today’s cultural climate.
With a touch of humor, she reflected on her history of playing angry, opinionated women onscreen, calling it “a bit of a stretch.”
Fonda urged her peers to act courageously in what she referred to as “documentary moments” of resistance, akin to civil rights or anti-apartheid movements.
“We don’t have to wonder anymore because we are in our documentary moments. This is it, and it’s not a rehearsal!” she stated, rallying actors to approach activism with bravery and resolve.
Fonda closed by urging her industry to stand together, commit to social responsibility, and aid those in need.
“We mustn’t, for a moment, kid ourselves about what is happening. This is big-time serious, folks. Let’s be brave. We must not isolate. We must stay in community. We must help the vulnerable,” she concluded.
Separately, former Vice President Kamala Harris faced criticism after receiving the Chairman’s Award at the NAACP Image Awards.

The internet erupted with mockery, dubbing her recognition a “participation trophy” after her unsuccessful bid against Trump in the election.
A widely followed X account, Clown World, shared the event footage, accusing the organization of prioritizing image over merit.
“Remember this fraud? Kamala Harris accepting an award for doing absolutely nothing. The NAACP Image Awards proving once again that it’s all about optics, not achievements,” the post read.
Critics piled on, calling the accolade undeserved. “Kamala Harris winning an award for ‘excellence’ in leadership is like giving an Oscar to a background extra,” another user quipped, questioning the validity of the honor.

Upon receiving the award, Harris delivered a speech warning of challenges on the horizon. Her remarks painted a grim picture, describing “flames on our horizons” and “shadows gathering over our democracy” under Trump’s continued presidency.
“Some see the flames on our horizons, the rising waters in our cities, the shadows gathering over our democracy, and ask, ‘What do we do now?’” Harris posed rhetorically, before offering hollow reassurance.
“We know exactly what to do, because we have done it before. And we will do it again.”
Harris also stressed the importance of activism, claiming, “Our power has never come from having an easy path. We use our power. We organize. We mobilize. We educate. We advocate.”
I’ll bet nobody knows Kamala Harris’s last name — Trump at CPAC

Harris’s speech followed a scathing jab from Trump at CPAC, where he referenced her efforts on the border crisis with hilarious derision.
“I haven’t said that name in a while, Kamala,” he said, suggesting widespread indifference toward the former vice president. “I bet nobody knows her last name.”
