“Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo took a moment during her Monday appearance on “The View” to veer off-topic and launch into a scathing critique of President Donald Trump.
While promoting her latest Hulu project, “Good American Family,” Pompeo shifted the conversation to Trump’s policies and legal troubles, turning a discussion about her upcoming series into a political commentary.
Pompeo, 55, was on the talk show to discuss her new drama, which is based on the real-life case of Natalia Grace.
Grace, a woman with a rare form of dwarfism, was adopted by an American family who later abandoned her, claiming she had misrepresented her age.

When co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin asked about the complexities of Grace’s case and what Pompeo hoped viewers would take away from the story, the television actress took the opportunity to criticize Trump amid ongoing debates about his immigration policies.
“I hope they take away that we should rush to judgment a little less. I hope they look at themselves,” Pompeo stated. “We all should ask ourselves, why do we look at something and, at face value, make a judgment about it?”
“I think we do that as human beings, and I think we all need a lot more empathy right now. I hope we take that away,” she added.
After a brief pause, Pompeo pivoted to Trump’s legal troubles, referencing his conviction in May 2024 on 34 counts in a hush-money trial.
“I mean, why are old white men the only ones who are allowed to be felons? No one else can stay in this country if they’re a felon, but somehow…” she said, before co-host Ana Navarro interjected with a jab at Trump’s appearance.
“He’s not even that white. Have you seen the amount of makeup he wears?” Navarro sniped.

Pompeo’s remarks came amid the Trump administration’s recent crackdown on illegal immigration, which has included mass deportations of criminal gang members.
Reports on Monday revealed that hundreds of illegal immigrants had been transferred to El Salvador after a federal judge issued a temporary order attempting to halt deportations.
The Associated Press reported that the administration justified its actions under an 18th-century wartime declaration targeting Venezuelan gang members.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the situation in a statement, clarifying that the administration had not violated any legal mandate.
“The administration did not ‘refuse to comply’ with a court order. The order, which had no lawful basis, was issued after terrorist TdA aliens had already been removed from U.S. territory,” Leavitt stated.
Liberal actress Mia Farrow also weighed in on social media, lashing out at Vice President JD Vance over the deportations.
Vance had posted, “There were violent criminals and rapists in our country. Democrats fought to keep them here. President Trump deported them.”
Farrow responded by casting doubt on the administration’s transparency, suggesting that the government had failed to properly identify those being deported.

“We have no idea who was sent to that nightmare prison in El Salvador. They were denied a hearing,” Farrow posted on the BlueSky app.
She also spread the claim that Trump officials had ignored a judge’s legal directive, writing, “Trump regime ignored a Judge’s order (binding under the law).”
Further, she questioned the administration’s methods, saying, “The [people] were sent via military plane so – if they had already taken off as claimed, the plane could & should have turned back.”

She ended her post with the demand: “Lock him up.”
Meanwhile, “The View” moderator Whoopi Goldberg raised concerns over the potential implications of Trump’s immigration policies.
She suggested the conspiracy theory that if the administration could deport foreign criminals and individuals deemed national security threats, it could theoretically extend its reach to American citizens as well.
“You just gotta keep your eyes open, y’all,” Goldberg warned. “Because if they can just come up and take somebody because they’ve made a decision that you’re supposed to be that person, any one of us could find ourselves being deported to some country when we’ve never been there.”

Goldberg then appeared to allude to concerns about the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiatives, hinting at broader governmental overreach.
“Listen, you know, it is very clear to me that if we don’t continue to say we want — listen, I understand you want to clean out all the old, some bad stuff,” she said.
“I get it, but why do you now have access to my personal information? I get what the things you are trying to do, I don’t understand why you’re taking my stuff.”
“My personal — not mine personally, but each and every one of you! And your Constitutional right to free speech,” she ranted.
