President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he plans to meet with comedian Bill Maher, despite their contentious past.
During a recent episode of his “Club Random” podcast, Maher revealed that Kid Rock extended an invitation for him to visit the White House and meet with Trump.
Trump later confirmed the upcoming meeting on his Truth Social platform, stating that he was going through with it as a favor to Rock, a prominent celebrity supporter.
“I got a call from a very good guy, and friend of mine, Kid Rock, asking me whether or not it would be possible for me to meet, in the White House, with Bill Maher, a man who has been unjustifiably critical of anything, or anyone, TRUMP,” he posted.

“I really didn’t like the idea much, and don’t like it much now, but thought it would be interesting,” Trump wrote.
He went on to note that no matter how Maher might feel about him privately, he expects the comedian to maintain his public stance against him.
“The problem is, no matter how much he likes your Favorite President, ME, he will publicly proclaim what a terrible guy I am, etc.,” the post continued.

“Very much like the Democrats at my recent Address to the Joint Session of Congress, where I stated, correctly, that no matter what I said or did, they wouldn’t stand, they wouldn’t applaud, they wouldn’t smile or laugh and, certainly, they wouldn’t be in any way ‘nice,’” he noted.
Trump concluded the post by suggesting that the meeting might surprise him.
“Who knows, though, maybe I’ll be proven wrong? In any event, I’m doing a favor for a friend. I look forward to meeting with Bill Maher, Kid Rock and, I believe, even the Legendary [UFC CEO] Dana White will be present. It might be fun or, it might not, but you will be the first to know!”
Though Trump did not specify a date, Kid Rock previously mentioned on Glenn Beck’s show that he would be bringing Maher to the White House at the end of the month.
He described the effort as an attempt to bring Americans together, despite political differences.
“I’m actually going to try and unite this country and I’m starting at the end of the month, I’m taking Bill Maher to the White House for dinner,” Kid Rock said.
He did point out that Maher “has done nothing but talk smack about the president since day one.”
Maher also confirmed the meeting on his podcast, “Club Random.”
“Kid Rock was here a couple of weeks ago, and he said, ‘I want you to meet Trump.’ He said, ‘I’m gonna take you to the White House.’ So now we’re gonna do that,” Maher reported.
When asked if he was concerned about backlash from fellow liberals, Maher dismissed the idea.
“There will be lots of people on the left who will be like, ‘How dare you talk to this man.’ It’s like, ‘f**k you, I’m not playing this game that you mean girls play,’” he stated.
Bill Maher scolds the ‘mean girls’ in the Democrat party for attacking his meeting with Trump:

He criticized those who avoid dialogue, saying, “‘Oh, you know what? You can’t sit at my lunch table, because I’m just not talking to you.’ Not talking to you? You lost the election. Who the f**k do you think you have to talk to?”
Maher likened the meeting to President Nixon’s 1972 visit to China, though he set lower expectations.
“I don’t have some sort of complex where I think I can heal America; I can’t,” he told Chris Cuomo on NewsNation. “OK, let’s get that clear. I’m not going to be healing America.”
At the time of Nixon’s visit, the United States had gone decades without diplomatic relations with China. Nixon, a staunch anti-communist, met with Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai in a move that reshaped global politics.
While Maher and Trump have been at odds for years, Maher suggested that such an open dialogue could be beneficial.
“There was nobody who was harder on Trump or more prescient about the fact that he wasn’t going to leave office voluntarily than I was,” Maher said.

He added that, while he doesn’t expect major change in their relationship, the meeting provides an opportunity to engage in direct conversation rather than sniping at each other from opposite sides of the country.
“Let’s talk to each other face to face. Let’s not stop shouting from 3,000 miles away, you know?” he said.
Maher dismissed any notion that the meeting would change his political stance.
“If they expect me to be leaving in a MAGA hat, they’re going to be very disappointed, but I know they don’t,” he remarked.
“Look, it probably will accomplish very little, but you got to try, man, you got to try.”
The comedian also noted that he had already received pushback from those who believe he should decline the invitation.
However, he argued that speaking with political opponents should not be seen as a betrayal of one’s principles.
“First of all, it’s an honor to be invited to the White House,” he said. “The idea that little Bill Maher from River Vale, N.J. — just a humble kid from the suburb — was invited for a private dinner at the White House.”
Despite his criticism of Trump, Maher acknowledged that he and the president share some common ground, particularly in their opposition to certain far-left policies.
“I’m honest about the ‘woke’ train to crazy town, and I don’t shrink from that,” Maher said. “I’ve also lost a lot of fans for that … it does give you a certain credibility.”
