As Israel faced a bombardment of ballistic missiles launched by Iran on Friday, multiple American citizens found themselves caught in the middle of the conflict after emergency airport closures trapped them in the country.
Former Olympic athlete Caitlyn Jenner and Republican strategist Scott Jennings were forced into to bomb shelters and hotel safe zones for protection.
Jenner, 75, had recently arrived in Tel Aviv to participate in the city’s Pride parade, while Jennings, 47, was making his first visit to the country.
Their travel plans were derailed after Israel unleashed a surprise military operation against Iranian nuclear facilities, triggering a violent response from Tehran.
It was a pleasure to meet @Caitlyn_Jenner today.
Her visit to Tel Aviv during Pride week is a meaningful gesture of solidarity with our local LGBTQ+ community and with Israel.

The counterattack involved a wave of ballistic missiles, forcing Israel into a state of emergency as the Iron Dome attempted to shoot them down and shutting down all outbound flights.
While staying at a hotel in Israel, Jennings was preparing to appear on CNN remotely when the first emergency notification appeared on his phone.
“I stood out on the balcony in my hotel and watched,” he said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “In fact, I’m looking at a military jet fly overhead right now.”
Just recorded this over my hotel on Sea of Galilee in Israel – and then a minute later heard a BOOM. this is looking south. Hearing booms in distance. Iran missile attacks I presume. pic.twitter.com/FuJkyvmzUZ

Jennings noted that Israeli airspace had been closed and added, “Airspace is closed, airports are closed. The thing we know the least about is how are we going to get out of here.”
By Friday evening, the Israeli military instructed the public to head to bomb shelters as intelligence reported “dozens” of missiles approaching.
That same night, Jennings recorded a video from his hotel, capturing air raid sirens and missile trails streaking across the sky.
“Air raid sirens in Tiberias, Israel just after 5am,” he captioned the video posted on X. “Missiles visible in the sky. Incoming from Iran.”

Jenner also found herself taking cover when the situation escalated. The aging Olympian had planned to headline the Tel Aviv Pride parade but never made it to the stage.
Organizers canceled the event at the last minute following the surprise airstrikes carried out by Israel the night before.
Following the cancellation, Jenner remained trapped in the country along with Jennings.
As the air assault unfolded, the Decathlete checked in with relatives via text, saying, “Please pray. I’m holding up okay.”
On Friday afternoon, Israeli influencer Regev Gur shared a picture on social media featuring Jenner and himself inside a bomb shelter.
“What were you doing with the alarms?” he wrote. “Because I’m drinking wine with Caitlyn.”
In the photo, the pair appear calm, seated near lockers, with Jenner lifting a glass of wine and Gur smiling broadly.

The U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv advised Jenner to remain in a windowless interior space of her hotel, and the former “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star reportedly followed their guidance to the letter.
As the bombardment continued, Jenner uploaded a snapshot of Israel’s missile defense system lighting up the night sky.
“‘Quiet’ night in Tel Aviv. Pray for us all. We will prevail,” Jenner wrote. “I am happy to stand with Israel today, now more than ever.”

After news of their entrapment in Israel went public, one social media user heinously posted,
“God works in strange ways! Who had it on their Bingo card that two of the most evil inhumane cruel inhabitants of earth are stuck in Israel! Don’t come back. You deserve one another!”
Jenner replied lightheartedly to the criticism, writing, “Ahhh @ScottJenningsKY we have a fan in common!! LOL.”
The travel lockdown followed a powerful Israeli air campaign launched on Thursday targeting Iranian nuclear and defense installations.
According to Iranian officials, the attack resulted in the deaths of 78 individuals and left more than 320 injured.
Among the casualties were nine high-ranking nuclear scientists and military commanders reportedly involved in Iran’s weapons development.
Following the strike, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei pledged to deliver “heavy blows” in response, accusing Israel of initiating the conflict.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the operation was only the beginning of an effort to neutralize threats posed by the Iranian regime.
Netanyahu added that although Israel was not actively seeking regime change in Iran, it would welcome such an outcome. “More is on the way,” he warned in a public statement.
Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system was activated during the retaliatory barrage, with dramatic videos showing bright streaks and explosions as incoming missiles were intercepted over Tel Aviv.
Despite the Iron Dome’s efforts, not all projectiles were stopped. One missile reportedly hit a building, trapping civilians inside.
Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a warning Saturday to Tehran, saying, “If (Iranian Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali) Khamenei continues to fire missiles at the Israeli home front — Tehran will burn.”
Katz added that Iran would pay a “heavy price” for any harm inflicted upon Israeli civilians.
