In his newest Netflix special, comedian Dave Chappelle weighed in on Charlie Kirk’s death and rejected comparisons to Martin Luther King Jr.
During “The Unstoppable,” which premiered over the weekend, Chappelle addressed public claims likening Kirk to King, dismissing the idea while acknowledging the shock surrounding Kirk’s killing.
The comedian referred to Kirk as an “internet personality” and a “wholesome White guy,” framing his remarks around how the assassination affected him personally as a performer who makes a living speaking on stage.
“If you talk for a living and see Charlie Kirk get murdered that way, I’ll be honest, I was shook,” Chappelle began.
In his new special, Dave Chappelle takes a swing at Charlie Kirk, acting as if Charlie’s influence is purely online. It’s a lazy take. Charlie’s impact comes from his relentless touring and real-world interactions that are simply amplified by social media, not the other way… pic.twitter.com/rlZeQY41Nj

“I mean, Charlie Kirk was the wholesome white guy. And they killed this motherf—er? I said, ‘These whites…never seen ’em like this. They’re playing for keeps!’”
Chappelle told the audience that he remains uncertain about how to interpret Kirk’s death and the narratives that followed it.
“I’m not making light of Charlie Kirk dying, but I’m not sure what it means, and I’m not sure I believe what they say it means,” he noted.
The comic then turned to comparisons he said surfaced quickly after the assassination.
“I’ll tell you what I don’t believe, and the whites were quick to say this,” he remarked.
“They said, ‘Charlie Kirk is this generation’s Martin Luther King [Jr.]’ No, he’s not! Yeah, that’s a reach.”
The remarks echoed controversy Chappelle faced months earlier during appearances at the Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia, held from late September to early October.
“It’s easier to talk here than it is In America.”

At that event, Chappelle joked about what he described as limits on free speech in the United States, even though performers at the festival were under contracts to deliver comedy approved by the Saudi government.
According to reporting discussed during his special, Chappelle insensitively joked on stage, “Right now in America, they say that if you talk about Charlie Kirk, that you’ll get canceled. … I don’t know if that’s true, but I’m going to find out.”
Chappelle later addressed the reaction to those remarks during “The Unstoppable,” telling viewers that the comments were never intended for publication.
“I didn’t tell them to put this in the paper. I just said it on stage,” he said.
He also referenced his own history with public backlash, reminding the audience of previous controversies tied to his comedy.
“Two years ago, I almost got canceled right here in the United States for transgender jokes,” Chappelle teed up.
“But I gotta tell you something. Transgender jokes went over very well in Saudi Arabia.”
Bill Maher slaps around Dave Chappelle for straight up lying that you can speak more freely in Saudi Arabia than in America.
Louis C.K.: “Yeah, I don’t know if that’s true.”
Bill Maher: “Oh, it’s not true… Do your hunk on Mohammed Dave.”

The remarks drew criticism from HBO host Bill Maher, who addressed the issue on HBO’s “Real Time” in October during a conversation with comedian Louis C.K., who was scheduled to perform at the same Saudi festival.
“Dave Chappelle … was in the press today saying that you can speak more freely over here than in America,” Maher said.
C.K. replied “I don’t know if that’s true.” Maher shot back, “Oh, it’s not true.”
Maher added that if Chappelle truly believed free speech was broader in Saudi Arabia, he should have tested that view by performing material about the Prophet Muhammad.
NEW: Dave Chappelle rips comedian Bill Maher for his "smug cracker ass commentary."
"These motherf*ckers act like because I did a comedy festival in Saudi Arabia, I somehow betrayed my principles."
"They said, 'Well, Saudi Arabia k*lled a journalist…'"

Chappelle responded directly to Maher during his Netflix special. “I’ve known Bill since I was like 18, 19 years old, and I’ve never said this publicly, but f— that guy,” he sneered. “I’m so f—ing tired of his little smug cracker-a– commentary.”
Elsewhere over the weekend, Erika Kirk welcomed rapper Nicki Minaj as a surprise guest for a question-and-answer session at AmericaFest on Sunday.
Minaj has previously worked with the White House and appeared at the United Nations in November to raise awareness about persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
“I’m honored to be here. I’m honored to be here,” Minaj said after being introduced on stage.
She went on to speak positively about President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, describing them as leaders she believes can relate to everyday Americans.
🚨 JUST IN. THE LEFT IS STUNNED.
Nicki Minaj just said she’s PROUD of Donald Trump and JD Vance and she didn’t mince a single word.
“This administration is full of people with heart and soul. They make me proud.”
“Our Vice President. I love both of them.”

“I love both of them,” Minaj said. “I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president.”
“I don’t know if he even knows this, but he’s given so many people hope that there’s a chance to beat the bad guys and to win, and to do it with your head held high and your integrity intact.”
Minaj said Trump has faced intense scrutiny in public view that she views as unfair.
“He’s been through every single thing a person can go through, publicly,” she said, adding that he has been “constantly lied on.”
“Until you are in that person’s shoes that’s being lied on, you’ll never understand what it feels like,” Minaj continued.
“That person is a human being, they have a family who has to read those lies, and it’s just not fair.”
She praised members of the current administration, saying they make her proud.
“But this administration is full of people with heart and soul, and they make me proud of them,” Minaj commented.
She also described both Trump and Vance as leaders she considers relatable.
Nicki Minaj says being at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest is more important than any concert she's ever performed.
“Because this is a direct link between young people and God.”

“Our vice president — well, I love both of them — they’re both powerful men, smart, strong, all of that, but both of them have a very uncanny ability to be someone that you relate to,” she noted.
“I can relate to them,” Minaj added. “When I hear them speak, I know that they’re one of us — they haven’t lost touch of the world.”
During her appearance, Kirk brought up Minaj’s past criticism of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, comments she reiterated during the event.
“Dear Newscum, we don’t have a problem cleaning up the scum if we have to, please tread lightly. That’s what I’d say to Gavie poo,” Minaj stated.
Vice President JD Vance closed out AmericaFest by addressing the crowd about the future of the “America First” movement.
Vance told attendees that the political coalition built under President Trump is broad enough to handle internal disagreements.
“People of every faith come to our banner because they know that the America First movement will make our lives better,” Vance said.
VP VANCE: "President Trump did not build the greatest coalition in politics by running his supporters through endless, self-defeated purity tests… I didn't bring a list of conservatives to denounce or to de-platform… The best way to honor Charlie is that none of us here… pic.twitter.com/jyMQotlW1O

“They know Democrats don’t care about anything other than trans-ing their kids,” he added.
Vance said the movement remains open to those who love the country, regardless of background.
“President Trump did not build the greatest coalition in politics by running his supporters through endless, self-defeating purity tests,” Vance told the audience.
He dismissed divisions that surfaced earlier in the conference without naming specific figures.
“So if you love America, if you want all of us to be richer, stronger, safer, and prouder, you have a home on this team,” Vance commented.
“I didn’t bring a list of conservatives to denounce or to deplatform, and I don’t really care if some people out there — I’m sure we’ll have the fake news media — denounce me after this speech.”
