Hanoi Jane blasted President Donald Trump’s Iran strikes as “dangerous and insane” during a Los Angeles protest just hours after U.S. forces killed Iran’s supreme leader.
The actress spoke outside City Hall as demonstrators gathered to denounce the administration’s joint military campaign with Israel, which targeted Iran’s top leadership and defense infrastructure.
“Right now we are witnessing the horror of an unnecessary, unprovoked war of choice, raged by the Trump administration, that has already taken the lives of dozens of schoolchildren because they bombed a girls’ school in Iraq, among other civilian targets. Right now, parents are pulling their children out of the rubble, their bodies out of the rubble,” Fonda said.
She told the crowd that Americans had not consented to the conflict. “The people of the United States are here to tell the Trump administration: You may wage this war in our names, but not with our consent.”

Fonda accused the president of placing “profit over people” and argued the operation violated international law and the War Powers Act.
“This dangerous and insane war against Iran not only violates international law and our constitution and War Powers Act, but risks exploding into a vast war of mass proportion, taking the lives of many, including U.S. service people,” she commented.
Her remarks came hours after confirmation that three U.S. troops were killed in the escalating conflict.

Trump addressed the nation in a video posted to Truth Social and vowed retaliation.
“As one nation, we grieve for the true American patriots who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation,” Trump said.

“Even as we continue the righteous mission for which they gave their lives, we pray for the full recovery of the wounded and send our immense love and eternal gratitude to the families of the fallen.”
The president warned that more casualties could follow. “Sadly, there will likely be more before it ends,” he said.
“America will avenge their deaths and deliver the most punishing blow to the terrorists who have waged war,” Trump added. “Our resolve and likewise that of Israel has never been stronger.”
Trump described Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a man with “the blood of hundreds and even thousands of Americans on his hands” and said U.S. forces struck hundreds of targets, including Revolutionary Guard facilities, air defense systems and naval assets.

He claimed American forces knocked out nine Iranian ships “in a matter of literally minutes” and declared that operations would continue “until all of our objectives are achieved.”
He also issued a warning to Iran’s military leadership and urged them to surrender in exchange for immunity or face “certain death.”
Fonda compared the operation to the Vietnam War, invoking her own controversial history.

“It is yet again another war based on false information, and I can’t help but think back to the Vietnam War,” she said.
She toured Hanoi in 1972 and was photographed with North Vietnamese forces during that conflict.
“Although it’s not written in history books, the American anti-war movement had a lot to do with ending that war,” she added.
Fonda widened her criticism beyond foreign policy and took a direct jab at the president.

“Trump is a sad, unhinged man. He is at war on many fronts. He is at war against Democracy. He is at war against our constitutional rights, especially our First Amendment right, free speech and free assembly,” she told the crowd.
The strikes, dubbed “Operation Epic Fury,” targeted Iranian air defenses and senior officials. Israeli media and Trump confirmed that Khamenei, who ruled for more than three decades, died in an airstrike that hit his compound.
Fellow-far left Hollywood was quick to criticize Trump online. Actor John Cusack accused the president of starting “a wag the dog war” and suggested it was meant to distract from other controversies.
The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) killed more than 1,000 Americans over the past 47 years. Yesterday, a large-scale U.S. strike cut off the head of the snake. America has the most powerful military on earth, and the IRGC no longer has a headquarters. pic.twitter.com/WdpN7JBECr

“Trump starts a wag the dog war – to distract from Epstein and to do Netenyahu‘s bidding – who’s lobbied for this for over 30 years – Had enough yet?” Cusack wrote on X.
Rosie O’Donnell invoked the hashtag #impeachtrump and reposted Trump’s 2024 campaign lines in which he called himself the “candidate of peace.”
One quote she shared read, “I’m not going to start a war, I’m going to stop wars.”
Mark Ruffalo posted an article about Jared Kushner and added, “He was sent to make sure we went to war.”
Musician Jack White mocked the administration’s messaging. “Behold the leader of the ‘Board of Peace,’” White wrote. “Venezuela, Greenland, Iran, Cuba, what’s the difference right?”
Author Stephen King posted a demand after citing the Constitution. “Impeach the SOB,” he wrote.
Under Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, only Congress has the power to declare war, as well as to raise and support armies, provide and maintain a navy, and fund and regulate the military.

Actress Mia Farrow echoed that call in two separate posts.
“Mad man in the WH [White House] / Impeach Trump,” she wrote before adding, “We are at war because Netanyahu told Trump to crush them. Israel has long wanted to dominate Iran.”
Jon Cryer questioned the stated goals of the operation. “But… but… I was told that Donald Trump had obliterated Iran’s nuclear program. What are they preventing?” Cryer wrote.
Daryl Hannah offered a short jab in the form of a social media haiku. “oxymoron much / indefinite bombing for peace,” she posted.

Ellen Barkin framed the conflict as misdirected. “Unfortunately this regime change war is focused on the wrong regime,” she wrote.
Carrie Coon referenced the administration’s rhetoric. “’Department of War.’ They weren’t kidding about that,” she posted.
Comedian Kathy Griffin shared a meme tying the strike to the Epstein files controversy.
The meme read: “Trump’s response to his name being cited in the Epstein files 38,000 times — Bomb Iran.”
The clash between the White House and Hollywood critics unfolded as U.S. forces continued operations inside Iran and Trump maintained that American objectives had not yet been achieved.
“America will avenge their deaths and deliver the most punishing blow to the terrorists who have waged war,” Trump said.
On Monday, Trump said that Operation Epic Fury was “ahead of schedule” in its effort to “crush the threat” in Iran.
“We have the strongest and most powerful, by far, military in the world, and we will easily prevail,” he remarked.
“We’re already substantially ahead of our time projections, but whatever the time is, it’s okay. Whatever it takes.”
He noted that the operation was expected to last four to five weeks, but the military has the “capability to go far longer than that.”
“We also projected four weeks to terminate the military leadership,” Trump noted about the death of Khamenei. “And as you know, that was done in about an hour. So we’re ahead of schedule there by a lot.”
