First Lady Jill Biden said she knows that her stepson Hunter Biden “is innocent” of the federal charges he may face for a 2018 gun purchase.
“Everybody and their brother has investigated Hunter. They keep at it, and at it, and at it. I know that Hunter is innocent. I love my son, and I will keep looking forward,” she remarked in an NBC News interview.
In early October, a report by the Washington Post revealed that federal investigators believe they have enough evidence to indict Hunter on tax crimes and a false statement related to the purchase of a firearm.
The IRS is reportedly digging into undeclared income from his business deals in foreign countries, while the FBI investigation centers around his lie that he wasn’t using illegal drugs on the background check for a gun that he later threatened his then-girlfriend with while he was high on crack cocaine.
The President told CNN’s Jake Tapper that he was “proud” of his son after the bombshell report, and said he is “confident” that what Hunter “says and does are consistent with what happens.”
“He came along and said, by the way, this thing about a gun, I didn’t know anything about it. But it turns out that when he made [an] application to purchase a gun,” Biden continued.
“You get asked the question, are you on drugs or use drugs?” The president explained. “He said no. And he wrote about saying no in his book. So, I have great confidence in my son.”
Unlike the Biden’s, the internet has very little confidence in Hunter’s innocence, or that the first lady is being truthful.
“The blinders are strong on Jill Biden,” one detractor wrote. “But does anyone think she means a word of it? Of course not.”
“Naturally she is going to claim his innocence,” added another. “She is not going to admit that he and his father colluded with foreign countries.”
Many commenters believe that FLOTUS and POTUS are involved in Hunter’s alleged dirty dealings.
“So another Mafia wife tells America they’re just a regular family with good kids,” someone posited.
“Jill should be in prison too,” one tweeter posted. “She’s the mob bosses wife. She knows exactly what has gone on for decades and, like a good mob boss wife, she covers for the entire mob family.”
“Seriously?” Someone concluded. “These people really do think we’re stupid.”
In the same interview, the first lady refused to admit if Biden would seek another term in 2024, but she did gush that “he understand government better than anybody else.”
According to her senior advisor, a 2024 run “is something both Dr. Biden and the family fully support.”
While a longtime friend admitted that Dr. Biden guides the president’s actions behind the scenes. “I don’t think he makes any decision of consequence without speaking to her and having her view,” former Delaware senator Ted Kaufman commented.
The president told reporters on Friday that it was his “intention” to enter the upcoming race, and said his wife believes the administration is doing “important” work.
“I have not made that formal decision but it’s my intention… my intention to run again. And we have time to make that decision,” he stated. “Dr. Biden thinks that uh, my wife thinks that uh, that I uh, that, that we’re, that we’re doing something very important.”
