Podcaster Megyn Kelly called a foul when announcers at the NFC Championship game referred to the first lady as “Dr. Jill Biden” during the live broadcast.
FLOTUS was spotted beside NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in a suite at Lincoln Financial Field, while her home team the Philadelphia Eagles clobbered the visiting San Francisco 49ers by twenty-four points on Sunday.
A Fox Sports announcer and screen caption both titled the first lady “Dr. Jill Biden,” as the media often does, in reference to her Doctorate in Education.
Kelly took exception to Biden using the honorific of doctor, because she doesn’t practice medicine.
“Announcers for this Eagles-49ers game just spotted the First Lady in a box and of course call her “Dr. Jill Biden,” Kelly tweeted on Sunday afternoon.
“Wonder if she realizes what a wannabe she looks like insisting on this fake title. Get a real MD or just work on your self-esteem.”
This isn’t the first time Kelly has called out the first lady for using the academic epithet.
The former Fox News host made a sarcastic reference to “Dr. Jill Biden,” ironically after she attended her first Eagles game of the season in October.
NFL fans booed Biden during the match-up between her hometown heroes and the Dallas Cowboys in Week Six.
She led the crowd through a performance of the team’s fight song, “Fly Eagles Fly,” while jeers of “F–k Joe Biden” and “Let’s Go Brandon” could be heard on videos that appeared on social media.
She appeared at the game to meet with cancer patients in joint promotion of the president’s Cancer Moonshot Initiative and the NFL’s “Crucial Catch” cancer program.
Kelly appeared on Australia’s Sky News the following week and spoke to a host that was equally critical of the first lady’s title.
He properly titled Biden, who called an “unserious person,” before noting that his show would be “taken off the internet” if he did not refer to her as such.
Kelly said it was “no surprise” that Biden was booed while acting as the Eagles honorary captain during prior to kickoff.
“I think that the feeling on both of them [the Biden’s] is really turning here in the United States,” she remarked.
“Dr. Jill is bearing the brunt of his unpopularity. So they’re really booing him,” Kelly explained.
“That’s how they’re feeling about him, he’s got terrible approval ratings,” she concluded.
Despite Kelly’s jabs, the first lady is highly educated. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware in 1975, then went on to get dual masters degrees from West Chester in 1981, and Villanova in 1987.
Biden taught English in Delaware high schools and community colleges throughout the 1990’s and early aughts, then went back to school herself.
The first lady was 55-years-old when she earned her Doctorate in Education from the University of Delaware in 2007.
Plenty of social media commentators agreed with Kelly’s assessment of the media’s use of Biden’s title.
“If someone is having a heart attack & Jill is around, still call 911,” a replier pointed out. “She can’t help.”
“I know quite a few PhDs. None of them insist on being called Dr. so-and-so,” one person wrote. “Megyn Kelly is right. Jill Biden sounds pretentious.”
“This tweet has blown up, but it’s important to remember that AP style, as of 2017, is to refer only to doctors of medicine or dentistry as “doctors,” someone cited.
However, woke Twitter called Kelly’s post a flagrant personal foul.
“On behalf of everybody who has a PhD, or knows somebody who has one and can appreciate the tireless years of work it takes to research, write, and defend a dissertation, go f*ck yourself,” one person replied.
“Megyn Kelly is upset Dr. Jill Biden calls herself a doctor,” Trending Liberal posted. “I’m upset Megyn calls herself a journalist.”
“Jill Biden actually earned a doctorate,” chimed in “West Wing” star Bradley Whitford.
“On the other hand, you @megynkelly are an entertainer who claims to be a journalist. STFU. We’re watching the game.”
Actor Billy Baldwin said that the conservative host “needs a doctor” herself. “Megyn Kelly and the insane corporate right wing needs to be called on their bullsh*t at every turn,” he tweeted.
“Dr. Biden has earned her title just as much as Megyn Kelly earned her firing from NBC for being a racist piece of trash,” wrote one liberal.
“Do you realize that getting a PhD doesn’t mean you’re a medical doctor?” A liberal podcaster scolded. “Are you that ignorant or are you just treating your audience as if they are?”
The Eagles went on to decimate the 49ers in a brutal thirty-one to seven slaughter, after losing two quarterbacks during the game.
Third string rookie quarterback Brock Purdy, has been holding it down for Niners since week 13, when backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo broke his left foot during a 33-17 win against the Dolphins.
Purdy went down during the first quarter after taking a hit from Eagles pass-rusher Haason Reddick on the 49ers sixth offensive snap.
Veteran journeyman quarterback Josh Johnson middled through first half, but was concussed early on in the third quarter after a brutal hit by Eagles tackle Ndamukong Suh.
Purdy came back in the game, but was unable to throw and the Eagles took advantage of it by overwhelmed their running game with six defenders.
“We didn’t really get to see all the 49er football that we wanted to put out there on tape,” remarked star tight end George Kittle. “But life just kind of punches you in the face sometimes.”
The Eagles will go on to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the Superbowl on Feb. 12, after they handily defeated Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals 23 to 20 on Sunday night.
“How does it feel to lose the NFC Championship Game because I don’t have a quarterback?” Kittle said about the game. “Pretty s—ty, to be honest.”
