The father of pop star Lady Gaga is spearheading efforts to combat the influx of migrants in his upscale New York City neighborhood.
Germanotta, 66, a resident of The Pythian on the Upper West Side for over three decades, expressed concerns about the nearby Stratford Arms Hotel, which has recently been repurposed as a housing facility for around 500 undocumented migrants.
Germanotta, in an interview with The New York Post, voiced his discontent, reflecting on the changes in the neighborhood. “If it was like this when my girls were growing up, I wouldn’t be living in New York,” he said.
He said that the presence of 500 recent border crossers in the dormitory has resulted in “mayhem” in the area.

In response to the situation, Germanotta and fellow residents have formed the West 70th Street Association, aiming to advocate for increased policing and better management of the neighborhood.
Describing the disturbances, Germanotta detailed the unsavory activities taking place on the streets, which gets worse when the sun goes down.
“Hookers are coming and going. In the mornings, you see prostitutes coming out of the building,” he explained.
“The worst part’s at night. The noise. It starts at about 10 o’clock, and it’ll go until 4 in the morning. Playing music and racing their motocross and motorbikes up and down the streets.”
Germanotta said that the sudden influx of “was a stealth operation” by lawmakers.
“They were bused in in the middle of the night, like when they flew them into Westchester, they didn’t want anybody to know what was going on,” he detailed. “It was all pretty rapid.”
@ladygaga This is rich. Does your dad know 🫵🏼 supported this for the country?
You supported this 100% and Biden.
Now you're crying about it.

The “Bad Romance” singer’s father said that students from the American Music and Dance Academy (AMDA) were booted out of their dormitories at the hotel with only two weeks notice, and none was given to any of the neighborhood’s resident.
Germanotta acknowledged that the migrants are projected to stay for three years as per their contractual agreement.
However, he called for the situation to be properly managed and monitored with the implementation of adequate security measures and a code of conduct.

“They’re guests in our neighborhood, and they have basically taken over,” the Joanne Trattoria restaurant owner remarked.
Germanotta accused the AMDA of getting rid of the students for “a fat contract with the city,” which “screwed the neighborhood,” but making the school “very, very rich.”
The restaurateur said that the Big Apple’s sanctuary city status should have been suspended until enough housing was available, and suggested NYC Mayor Eric Adams utilize cruise ships as shelters for migrants.
He also blasted the $12.2 billion price tag the city is expected to incur by the end of 2024.
Adams implored the the Biden administration to send federal dollars to cover the cost of their border policies.

“Our compassion may be limitless, but our resources are not. This is the budgetary reality we are facing if we don’t get the additional support we need,” Adams said on Wednesday.
“New Yorkers did not create an international humanitarian crisis,” he commented. “But our city’s residents have been left to deal with this crisis almost entirely on our own.”
Germanotta noted that the money spent on migrants could be spent on building affordable housing in the city, and that emphasis on helping the people they bussed in is harming longtime residents.

‘The really sad part is that in the neighborhood, we still have our share of veterans and homeless — but we’re not taking care of our own,” he noted.
“They don’t get food every day. It’s really sad. I feel for them.”
Ironically, Germanotta’s famous daughter urged Texas to elect more Democrats last year.
“From what I understand, right now, this state [Texas] has a purple purple heart,” she said at a 2022 show in Texas. “I’m hoping that that purple is going to go blue.”
“You might not agree, but I don’t know that this is about what you believe, this is about keeping people safe,” she continued. “Sometimes we have to put aside what we believe.”
