The “Worst President” started trending on X, formerly Twitter after President Joe Biden used his final address to the nation to paint a bleak picture about the future.
The 82-year-old president took his seat at the Resolute Desk on Wednesday, delivering a farewell speech to the nation. Instead of dwelling on his administration’s achievements, his address primarily warned about what a second Trump presidency might bring to the country.
Biden voiced his concerns about an emerging “oligarchy” and a “dangerous concentration of power” among the ultra-wealthy.
“I want to warn the country of some things that give me great concern,” he began. “This is a dangerous concert – that’s dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a very few ultra wealthy people.”

Biden added, “They’re dangerous consequences if their abuse of power is left unchecked. Today, an oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power and influence that literally threatens our entire democracy, our basic rights and freedoms and a fair shot for everyone to get ahead.”
Biden shifted to sound the alarm about “the existential threat” posed by climate change, using California’s devastating wildfires and Hurricane Helene in North Carolina to make his point.
“Powerful forces,” according to Biden, are erasing progress his administration made on the economy and environmental policies for the sake of “power and profit.”

“I’m equally concerned about the potential rise of a tech industrial complex,” he stated, referring to Meta’s decision just days ago to terminate its fact-checking program.
Biden fears that the nation is being “buried under an avalanche of misinformation and disinformation” as social media companies step away from gatekeeping content accuracy.
“The truth is smothered by lies, both for power and for profit,” he lamented, pointing to the dangers posed by unchecked influence in technology and the crumbling state of the free press.

Defending his term in office, Biden mentioned his administration’s contributions, including lowering crime rates, fostering job creation, and strengthening NATO.
However, he did not shy away from making calls for systemic reform, suggesting time limits for Supreme Court justices and restricting members of Congress from trading securities while in office.
“We need to enact an 18-year time limit. Term limit, time and term for the strongest ethic and the strongest ethic reforms for Supreme Court,” Biden explained.

He also contended that members of Congress should not have the ability to make stock trades while representing their constituents.
Taking a final jab at his successor, President-elect Donald Trump, Biden mentioned the necessity of reversing judicial precedence surrounding presidential immunity, calling it a significant step to preserving democracy.
“In a democracy, there’s another danger to the concentration of power and wealth,” Biden stated. “It erodes a sense of unity and common purpose. It causes distrust and division. Participating in our democracy becomes exhausting and even disillusioning.”

“People don’t feel like they have a fair shot. We have to stay engaged in the process. I know it’s frustrating. A fair shot is what makes America, America,” he continued.
Before stepping away, Biden publicly praised his vice president, her family, and the first lady for their dedication and support. His speech closed with a direct call for vigilance.
“After a few years of service, I give you my word. I still believe in the idea for which this nation stands, nation where the strengths of our institutions and the character of our people matter and must endure,” he said. “Now it’s your turn to stand guard.”

The public’s immediate reaction was anything but complimentary. Analysts and commentators lambasted Biden’s farewell as lackluster and uninspiring. Social media platforms were ablaze, with “worst president” quickly becoming a trending topic on X.
Fox News commentator Dana Perino quipped, “This rings hollow. To me it felt like the speechwriters have already left the building and they asked Chat GPT to write a speech for Joe Biden in which he doesn’t remember that he was president for the last four years.”
Fellow Fox News star Greg Gutfeld went even further, saying, “What an embarrassing and pathetic end to an embarrassing and pathetic term.”

Radio host Clay Travis shared on X, “Joe Biden can’t even read. Every time he speaks it gets worse. Trying to run him in 2024 is the most reckless and indefensible presidential decision in any of our lives.”
Even ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith criticized Biden’s delivery during an appearance on NewsNation, suggesting the farewell was unnecessary.
“I was sad,” Smith reflected. “Of course the president is entitled, and he should give a farewell speech.
There is no question about that. But different times invade us all, and when you see the times that we live in sometimes you see something and you just say, ‘Silence or a simple goodbye would suffice.’ That’s how I felt about the president tonight.”
Highlighting dissatisfaction within his party, Smith commented, “When we see what transpired, what we’ve witness[ed], what has transpired over the last year plus. He was supposed to step away. He was supposed to be a transitional president, and you didn’t do that,”
The public joined the chorus of dismay, generating online venom. X users tweeted their disdain, with remarks like “Goodbye slobbering senile Joe Biden. The worst president ever! No one will miss this thing except Joy Behar.”
Former cohost of “The View,” Meghan McCain declared, “The Biden years are a great American tragedy that has done generational damage to the democrat brand and party. His memory will be remembered for this and nothing more.”
