Former U.S. soccer player and outspoken left-wing activist Megan Rapinoe has launched a scathing attack on President Donald Trump, labeling him “depraved” over his administration’s recent federal ban on transgender athletes competing in women’s sports within schools receiving taxpayer funding.
During an interview with MUNDIAL magazine, Rapinoe lashed out over the president’s decision to strengthen Title IX protections for female athletes, a move designed to prevent biological males from competing against women in scholastic and collegiate sports.
“Don’t tell me it’s about the rights of women’s sports,” Rapinoe fumed. “That is totally disingenuous to say that.”
The former U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) star, known for her national anthem protests, further accused Trump of attempting to erase transgender individuals from existence.

“I think it’s just really cruel,” she continued. “You know, if you strip it all back, it’s just kind of cruel and depraved. This isn’t an issue, and you aren’t going to be able to Executive Order trans people out of existence.”
Since returning to the White House, Trump has taken a strong stance in defense of women’s sports.
In January, he signed executive orders mandating the federal government recognize only two genders and introducing the policy titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports.”
Under this directive, schools that allow transgender athletes in female sports could lose federal funding.
In response, the NCAA swiftly revised its regulations to ensure that only biological women can compete in women’s sports at the collegiate level.
Despite these measures aiming to protect the integrity of female athletics, Rapinoe insists that it is Trump—not biological males in women’s competitions—who poses the true threat to women’s sports.
“We’ve just gone through a very long period over ten years of really needing to fight just to get to a baseline of, like, equal rights and non-discriminatory behavior, and when people stop just shitting on women’s sports. I think we are sort of at that moment,” she ranted.
While she admitted she is not personally fearful over this supposed attack on women’s sports, Rapinoe claimed to be worried for so-called “marginalized” groups.
“I am nervous, but I am also hopeful. I believe in people, and I certainly believe in women, and I believe that people want better than the grim, dark, just violent reality that Donald Trump has very clearly laid out for us,” she added.
Clay Travis, founder of conservative sports site Outkick, didn’t hesitate to fire back at Rapinoe.

“Megan Rapinoe’s US women’s soccer team lost 5-2 to a group of 15-year-old boys from Dallas and now she wants grown men in women’s sports. Her brain is broken,” Travis wrote.
Travis was referencing an infamous 2017 scrimmage in which the USWNT was reportedly defeated 5-2 by an FC Dallas Under-15 boys’ team—a claim that was often debated until USWNT legend Carli Lloyd confirmed it as true in November 2023.
Photos later surfaced of the young male players posing with members of the U.S. women’s squad following the match.
Haha. They should beat us. Bigger, stronger, faster! Boys always gave us a run for our money! It was great prep. https://t.co/QCuxA1jM40

Piers Morgan also took aim at Rapinoe’s latest outburst, ridiculing her for calling Trump “depraved.”
“Imagine thinking that anyone who questions biological men playing in women’s sport is ‘depraved,’” Morgan posted on X, followed by several laughing emojis. “Rapinoe is such a fraud.”
Rapinoe has long been a vocal critic of Trump but intensified her attacks in 2022 following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade—a ruling made possible by Trump’s three conservative Supreme Court appointments.
Trump countered by amping up his feud with Rapinoe, after her team’s humiliating early exit from the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
The USWNT was eliminated in the Round of 16 following a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout loss to Sweden—their worst-ever showing at a major tournament.

“The ‘shocking and totally unexpected’ loss by the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team to Sweden is fully emblematic of what is happening to the our once great Nation under Crooked Joe Biden,” Trump posted on Truth Social at the time.
“Many of our players were openly hostile to America – No other country behaved in such a manner, or even close,” he added.
“WOKE EQUALS FAILURE,” he concluded. “Nice shot Megan, the USA is going to Hell!!! MAGA.”
Rapinoe later reacted to Trump’s comments in an interview with The Atlantic, dismissing them as nonsense.
“Because what he’s saying is fake,” she claimed. “It’s a compilation of hit words and hot-button words that don’t actually make any sort of sense or square with reality at all.”
Meanwhile, in another development in women’s sports, Los Angeles Sparks forward Cameron Brink has admitted feeling uneasy about practicing against new male players after the team advertised tryouts for practice squad members earlier this month.
While it is common for WNBA teams to practice against men, Brink expressed discomfort over the Sparks’ latest recruitment efforts.
The team traditionally scrimmaged against USC’s men’s practice squad, who also work with the university’s women’s basketball team.
However, the Sparks’ March 9 call for male practice players stirred controversy online, and Brink is wary of the newcomers.
“I guess my confession is I’m really icked out by the potential new practice players,” she told Sydel Curry-Lee on their Wave Original podcast “Straight to Cam.”
Brink jokingly added that she would prefer the players be gay before voicing her concerns about how their presence might impact her performance in practice.
“Who are we trusting coming into this gym?” she questioned. “I’m not boxing anyone out. Lynne [Roberts], our new coach, is gonna be screaming at me for not rebounding. But I’m not boxing out anyone.”
