Former NCAA swimmer and conservative commentator Riley Gaines absolutely owned Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles during their social media spat over transgender participation in women’s athletics.
The feud erupted after Biles, 28, criticized Gaines’ reaction to a Minnesota high school softball team that featured a transgender athlete.
Gaines, who has become a prominent advocate for preserving female-only competition, took issue with Champlin Park High School winning a state title while having a biological male, Marissa Rothenberger, on the team.
Gaines reacted to the victory by posting a photo of the team’s celebration with the comment: “Comments off lol. To be expected when your star player is a boy.”

That remark triggered a scathing response from Biles, who accused Gaines of being motivated by bitterness.
“You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser,” Biles posted.
Biles went full tilt In a string of posts, suggesting that Gaines was straight-up bullying trans athletes and failing to offer any actual solutions.
@Riley_Gaines_ You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender… https://t.co/pjpzuZ0AlO

“You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports,” she wrote.
“Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!”
Taking her criticism to a personal level, Biles added another post aimed directly at Gaines’ physical appearance.
“Bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male,” she sniped.
Gaines, now 25 and the host of OutKick’s Gaines for Girls podcast, reacted with equal fire.

In one of several posts aimed at Biles, she pushed back on the accusation of bullying.
“This is actually so disappointing. It’s not my job or the job of any woman to figure out how to include men in our spaces,” she wrote.
“You can uplift men stealing championships in women’s sports with YOUR platform. Men don’t belong in women’s sports and I say that with my full chest.”
This is so disappointing. My take is the least controversial take on the planet.
Simone Biles being a male-apologist at the expense of young girls’ dreams? Didn’t have that on my bingo card.
Maybe she could compete in pommel horse and rings in 2028. https://t.co/Ptn35pyEvh

“My take is the least controversial take on the planet,” she continued. “Simone Biles being a male-apologist at the expense of young girls’ dreams?”
“Didn’t have that on my bingo card. Maybe she could compete in pommel horse and rings in 2028,” Gaines suggested about the two male categories in Olympic gymnastics.
The mockery over appearance also received a scathing rebuttal, with Gaines pointing out, “And the subtle hint at ‘body-shaming’ ???? Plzzzz I’m 5’5″.”
Gaines broke out the finisher move by resurfacing a 2017 tweet from Biles that she argued directly contradicts the gymnast’s current position on gender and fairness in athletics.
The old tweet read, “ahhhh good thing guys don’t compete against girls or he’d take all the gold medals!!”
“Oop don’t you hate it when your past self completely undermines your current nonsensical argument?” Gaines sniped.

“How has 2025 Simone reconciled with the fact 2017 Simone was a ‘truly sick bully’ by her own standard?”
Gaines, who became widely known after competing against Lia Thomas, a transgender swimmer who won NCAA titles while competing in the women’s division, has made defending female athletics her mission.
Earlier this year, she joined President Donald Trump at the White House during the signing of an executive order that restricts transgender athletes from participating in sports divisions that differ from their biological sex.

That same executive order led to a federal investigation into Minnesota’s high school athletics organization, a legal battle the state is currently fighting in court.
Biles, a decorated Olympian who has endured her own deeply personal challenges, including the public revelation of sexual abuse by former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, has often used her platform to advocate for mental health and athletes’ rights.
Gaines drew a stark contrast between Biles’ past experience and her present stance on the inclusion of transgender athletes.
The Trump administration is suing Maine over transgender athlete policies.

Referencing Biles’ harrowing testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the abuse she suffered at the hands of Nassar, Gaines pointed out another double standard.
“All the horrific sexual abuse @Simone_Biles witnessed and spoke out against caused by one man, yet believes women should be forced to strip naked in front of men to validate the man’s feelings,” Gaines wrote on X.
“You know how many gold medals you’d have if your ‘inclusive’ dream came true? Zero.”

She also shared a side-by-side comparison of Biles’ Senate testimony and a screenshot of her recent tweets.
“Simone Biles when she had to endure a predatory man Vs Simone Biles when other girls have to endure predatory men,” she wrote.
Nassar, once a prominent physician within USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University, was convicted in 2017 and 2018 on charges including possession of child sexual abuse material and criminal sexual conduct.
