President Donald Trump brought his signature humor back to the White House Halloween celebration, delighting supporters with a throwback to his viral candy-handout moment from 2019.
The lighthearted gesture instantly lit up social media, with fans praising the president for keeping his playful traditions alive.
Trump, joined by First Lady Melania Trump, welcomed families to the South Lawn on Thursday evening, where the couple distributed candy to costumed children as part of the annual Halloween festivities.
The president repeated his well-remembered 2019 prank by setting a candy bar on top of a young trick-or-treater’s head.

In a moment that quickly spread across X, Trump was seen smiling as he greeted a child dressed as DJ Marshmello.
Instead of handing over the treat, the president placed the chocolate square gently atop the youngster’s glowing helmet.
The child walked off grinning, balancing the candy in good humor as the crowd erupted in laughter.

The South Lawn was transformed with pumpkins, hay bales, and eerie lighting, adding a festive backdrop as “Thriller” by Michael Jackson played through the speakers.
The Trumps chose not to wear costumes this year, opting instead for their usual polished looks.
The president sported his recognizable red “USA” hat, while Melania wore a stylish long brown coat cinched with a belt as they greeted guests under the night sky.
According to a White House press release, families were invited to take part in trick-or-treat booths and enjoy the seasonal decorations on the South Portico.

The U.S. Air Force Strolling Strings performed Halloween classics and modern tunes as candy was passed out to children and parents alike.
The event featured participation from several government organizations, including NASA, the U.S. Mint, the National Park Service, the Secret Service, and the Center of Science and Industry.
The Department of Agriculture added an agricultural twist, setting up a “giant pumpkin” photo spot and providing miniature pumpkins from American farms.

Representatives from America 250 and the White House Historical Association also contributed treats and activities for attendees.
This year’s celebration was by invitation only, with tickets given to military and law enforcement families, children in foster or adoptive homes, and administrative officials.
Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance drew attention online for a Halloween stunt of his own.
On Friday, Vance shared a playful post on X featuring himself wearing a curly brown wig, referencing a popular internet meme known as “fat JD.”
— JD Vance (@JDVance) October 31, 2025
The meme began circulating months earlier after a tense meeting between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where Vance had asked Zelensky if he had “ever said ‘thank you’ once?”
In the photo, Vance’s eyes appear wide, his cheeks exaggerated, and the wig framing his face in a comic imitation of the viral image.
He later posted a full video of his Halloween costume on Instagram, opening a door and saying, “Happy Halloween. And remember to say thank you.”

The video ends with Vance spinning as “The Twilight Zone” theme plays under a purple filter.
Conservative commentator Benny Johnson had teased the reveal a day earlier in a Facebook video.
“Yesterday I asked JD Vance point blank what his Halloween costume was going to be because I’ve seen the speculation online and, well, we all want this to happen,” Johnson said, before cutting to a picture of the meme.
“And JD Vance told me this: ‘Stay tuned. The internet is going to love this. The internet is going to love this.’ Ladies and gentlemen, your first meme lord vice president. Get ready.”

While Halloween fun filled Washington, Trump later traveled to Florida for a separate celebration at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
The president hosted a Great Gatsby-themed Halloween party on Friday night, attended by political allies and guests dressed in Roaring ’20s attire.
Associated Press correspondent Danny Kemp posted a photo from the event, showing Trump seated at a table beside Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“Trump and Rubio at the Mar-a-Lago Halloween Party, on day 31 of the shutdown,” Kemp wrote on X. “Official theme is Gatsby and ‘a little party never killed nobody’, we’re told.”

The photo showed guests mingling in glittering dresses and tuxedos while Trump opted for his usual suit and tie.
The same evening, the president also recorded an interview with CBS’s Norah O’Donnell for an upcoming “60 Minutes” special set to air Sunday.
The conversation, filmed at Mar-a-Lago, marks the first time Trump has granted an interview to the network since filing a lawsuit against CBS and its parent company, Paramount Global, over a previous “60 Minutes” segment featuring former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump’s lawsuit claimed the network had edited Harris’s remarks on the Gaza conflict to make her appear more coherent, an accusation CBS denied in court filings.
In July, Paramount agreed to a $16 million settlement, with the funds allocated to Trump’s future presidential library.
Under the terms of the settlement, “60 Minutes” will release full interview transcripts with presidential candidates going forward, except for content withheld for legal or national security reasons.
Before his interview, Trump shared another update from Washington, spoke about recent renovations to a historic room in the White House.
“I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House,” he said. “It was renovated in the 1940s in an art deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era.”
“I did it in black and white polished Statuary marble. This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!”
