Liberal “Star Wars” actor Oscar Isaac claimed he would only consider working with Disney again if the company avoids “succumb[ing] to fascism,” in the wake of Jimmy Kimmel’s recent suspension and reinstatement.
Isaac, known for portraying Poe Dameron in the Star Wars films between 2015 and 2019, made the remarks in a GQ interview published Monday.
The actor was asked whether he would return to the franchise and replied that he would be willing to talk about it under certain conditions.
“Yeah. I mean, I’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney,” he said.

He added that the studio would need to avoid sliding into what he referred to as “fascism” before he would consider future projects.
If that happened, Isaac said he would be open to discussing a return to “a galaxy far away” or potentially other ventures.
The interviewer revisited a past comment in which Isaac said he would only join Star Wars again if he “needed another house.”
It was your unrelenting hatred of conservative Americans that put Charlie Kirk in his grave, Kimmel. You called us all “fascists” until somebody believed you enough to kill a man better than you’ll ever be. How dare you even say his name. pic.twitter.com/btHmruOi2z

Isaac brushed off the earlier remark, saying, “Yeah. That was a real likable quote. Jesus Christ.”
He noted that comments made in passing sometimes gain more traction than intended and said he had not given much thought to the line before it circulated.
“Y’know, people ask you things, you say stuff, you don’t really think about it that much,” he added. “I said a slightly dickish thing.”
GQ pointed out that the interview took place two days after Jimmy Kimmel was suspended and four days before he returned to air on September 23.
The late night host’s suspension by ABC and Disney followed remarks he made on Jimmy Kimmel Live! about the Trump administration’s response to the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
During the show, Kimmel said, “The Maga gang [is] desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.”
Afterward, Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr warned on a conservative podcast that the licenses of Disney and stations broadcasting Kimmel’s program could be scrutinized.
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr said at the time. He is scheduled to testify before the Senate commerce committee in December regarding whether he attempted to pressure broadcasters.
President Trump celebrated the temporary suspension, calling it “great news for America.”

On the podcast “We Can Do Hard Things,” Kimmel shared that he and his wife, executive producer and co-head writer Molly McNearney, told their son that Trump was responsible for the suspension.
McNearney recalled their child asking whether the president caused the situation. “Our son asked if the president had done this,” she said. “And we looked at each other and we didn’t quite know how to answer that question.”
Kimmel said he believed they replied yes, prompting his wife to confirm, “We did. We actually both said yes at the exact same time. We said yes. He did.”
During the same interview, McNearney said she has faced ongoing emotional strain tied to political disagreements within her family.

She said she feels “angry all the time” toward relatives she believes contributed to helping Trump regain power.
“It hurts me so much because of the personal relationship I now have, where my husband is out there fighting this man,” she said, adding that the divide has cost her relationships.
She described daily tension as she tries to navigate family interactions while processing national political stories.
“I personalize everything now,” she said. When she sees troubling news, she said she immediately becomes frustrated with certain “aunts, uncles, cousins, who put him in power.”
“To me, them voting for Trump is them not voting for my husband and me and our family,” she continued.

McNearney noted that she grew up in St. Louis and generally supported Republicans before living elsewhere and meeting a wider range of people.
She said she once felt “a little bit of sympathy” for conservative relatives who she believes receive misinformation.
“They are deliberately being misinformed every day, and they believe it,” she said.
Ahead of the 2024 election, McNearney said she reached out to family urging them not to support Trump.
“I’ve sent many emails to family saying, ‘I’m begging you. Here’s the 10 reasons not to vote for this guy. Please don’t,'” she said.
She claimed that most relatives ignored her message, while “a few” responded in ways she described as extreme.
She said these exchanges strained her family connections and led her to seek ways to “deprogram” herself from the emotional toll.
McNearney said her political focus has shifted from a partisan perspective to one she views as centered on “family values.”
She shared that she has strengthened relationships with relatives who share her views while distancing from those who do not.
“I’ve definitely pulled in closer with the family that I feel more aligned with,” she acknowledged. “And I hate that this has happened. It feels silly.”
She added that for her, the divide is “truly values” and not merely politics.
Shortly after the public learned of the show’s cancellation, Disney confirmed that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would return.
President Trump reacted on Truth Social, saying, “I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back. The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled!”

He claimed that Kimmel’s audience was “GONE” and criticized the host as lacking comedic ability.
Trump questioned why the network would bring him back and argued that the show’s content amounted to “99 percent positive Democrat GARBAGE.”
He suggested the programming could qualify as an “Illegal Campaign Contribution.”
Trump added that he intended to “test ABC out on this,” referencing a previous dispute in which he said the company paid him $16 million.
He ended the statement by calling the network “a true bunch of losers” and wrote, “Let Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad Ratings.”
