President Donald Trump’s plan to stage a nationwide athletic competition dubbed the “Patriot Games” has triggered Democrats to make mocking comparisons to the dystopian film franchise “The Hunger Games.”
The proposed competition was unveiled as part of the broader Freedom 250 initiative, a sweeping series of events planned to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.
According to Trump, the “Patriot Games” will span four days in the fall of 2026 and feature “one young man and one young woman from each state and territory.”
Trump discussed the idea while outlining plans for the country’s semiquincentennial celebration, which will culminate around the Fourth of July next year before extending into 2026.

“I pledged to give America the most spectacular birthday party the world has ever seen for America’s 250th anniversary on July 4th next year,” Trump said.
He pointed to earlier commemorations as a preview of what he envisions.
“Already, we’ve had big celebrations to commemorate the 250th birthdays of the Army, the Navy, and the United States Marines, but there is much, much more to come. We’re going to have a good time,” Trump added.
I saw that "Patriot Games" news and thought it was a joke. It is not.

As part of the announcement, Trump also reiterated a position he has raised repeatedly in recent years, stating that transgender athletes would not be allowed to participate in the competition.
“I promise there will be no men playing in women’s sports. You’re not going to see that. You’ll see everything but that!” he said in the video.

Not long after the details of the “Patriot Games” were made public, liberal critics on social media began likening the event to “The Hunger Games,” a popular fictional series set in a dystopian future.
“The Hunger Games” depicts a fictional nation called Panem, divided between a wealthy Capitol and 12 districts marked by economic hardship.
Each year, one boy and one girl from each district are selected to compete in a televised event where participants fight to the death.
me: obviously we should not have a H̶u̶n̶g̶e̶r̶ Patriot Games, that's dystopian and depraved

The film franchise debuted in 2012 and starred Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth.
A prequel, “The Hunger Games: Sunrise of the Reaping,” is scheduled for release in November.
The movies were adapted from the young adult novels written by Suzanne Collins.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker joined the online criticism by sharing a still image from the franchise showing fictional Panem leader Coriolanus Snow raising a glass.
Not them teasing the ‘Patriot Games’ where one boy and one girl from each US state/territory gets put into a 4 day athletic event.
May the odds be ever in your favor.

The post appeared in response to discussion surrounding the “Patriot Games,” drawing a comparison between the fictional dictator and Trump.
Within the context of the series, Snow serves as the central antagonist and is portrayed as a tyrannical ruler who played a key role in designing the brutal competition.
The official X account for the Democratic Party also responded by sharing a clip from the films alongside a movie quote.
“And so it was decreed that, each year, the various districts of Panem would offer up, in tribute, one young man and woman to fight to the death in a pageant of honor, courage and sacrifice,” the caption read.

California Governor Gavin Newsom added to the commentary by posting a well-known line from the franchise, writing, “May the odds be ever in your favor.”
Democratic commentator Brian Tyler Cohen criticized the proposal in a post on X.
“We asked for affordable health care and Republicans are giving us the Hunger Games,” Cohen wrote.
Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill., echoed similar concerns, framing the proposal as a distraction.
“A competition between teenagers created by authoritarians to distract the people from their brutality and corruption?” Ramirez mocked.
“What could possibly go wrong? If only there were a book that told us exactly what happens next.”
The White House pushed back against the comparisons, responding directly to Democrats on social media.
Patriot Games? 1 contestant from each district. Where have I heard that before? 🤣
Just kidding. Gonna be an incredible celebration for our 250 year anniversary.

“Of course Democrats hate this — it doesn’t involve confused men stealing medals from women and calling it ‘equality,’” the White House wrote.
“Celebrating elite young men and women who earn their recognition through hard work and talent is what real patriotism looks like.”
Beyond the “Patriot Games,” Trump used the announcement video to outline additional plans tied to the 250th anniversary celebration.
Among the proposals is the construction of a new triumphal arch monument in Washington, D.C.
“We are the only major place without a triumphal arc. A beautiful triumphal arc, one like in Paris, where they have the great, a beautiful arc. They call it the Arc de Triomphe, and we’re going to have one in Washington, DC, very soon,” Trump said.
Another component of the celebration would include a UFC event staged on the South Lawn of the White House, scheduled for June 14, which coincides with Trump’s birthday and Flag Day.
“On Flag Day, we will have a one-of-a-kind UFC event here at the White House. It’ll be the greatest champion fighters in the world, all fighting that same night. The great Dana White is hosting, and it’s going to be something special,” Trump said.
Trump later reinforced the scale of the planned event during remarks at the Kennedy Center Honors.
“Everyone’s a championship fight. And everyone’s a legendary type of fight,” he said.

🇺🇸Trump: White House UFC Event Will Be the Biggest Ever
Trump said:
"One of the things you're going to have here is some of the UFC press.
You're going to have the fighters coming over, talking about the fights.

UFC CEO Dana White has also spoken positively about the concept, predicting the event would be unprecedented.
“This is a one in one, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will never happen again,” White said earlier this year.
The proposal sparked discussion within the mixed martial arts community as well.
Podcaster Joe Rogan, who has served as a commentator for numerous UFC fights, raised questions about the logistics of hosting such an event at the White House.
While Rogan voiced excitement at the possibility of seeing fighters like Jon Jones compete in such a setting, he also questioned the practical challenges.
“Gotta be insane,” Rogan’s guest, MMA fighter Brendan Allen, said. “I can’t imagine, like you said, the security, the behind the scenes, how much stuff’s really going to happen.”
Rogan agreed, pointing to the added pressures that could come with the location.
“A lot of weird pressure, too,” Rogan said. “Because it’s like all the security and the protocols, all that extra s— in your mind before you have to go out there and fight.”
Rogan also noted environmental factors that could affect both fighters and spectators.
“Also, you’re fighting outside,” he said. “What if it’s hot and muggy?”
Allen referenced previous outdoor bouts he has seen in humid conditions.
“So, who knows what’s going to happen. I guess they’ll probably have to have some sort of a roof over it,” Rogan added. “But what if it’s like 98 degrees outside? D.C. gets hot. It gets hot in the summer.”
