Actor Diego Luna, known for his starring role in Disney’s Star Wars spinoff Andor, took a swipe at conservatives during on live television.
During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Luna the opportunity to mock a major name change tied to the Trump administration.
The segment quickly turned political when Kimmel brought up the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America,” asking Luna, “Are you guys also not calling it the Gulf of America or is that just us?”
“I mean, who can take that seriously? Come on. That’s ridiculous,” the Mexican actor responded.
Kimmel followed up by suggesting that things were being taken seriously in Luna’s native country, to which the actor responded with concern over immigration policies.
“We feel worried and sad. Not just the Mexican community here, but the Latino community and the fear for deportation and family separation. It’s just too sad to see what’s happening,” Luna said.
As the conversation took a more serious tone, Luna began pressing Kimmel about who he voted for in the 2024 Presidential Election.

“I didn’t mean to lead you to a sad thing, but it’s worth saying,” Kimmel told Luna.
“But you did,” Luna responded. “The voting thing, what did you do?”
“Did I vote?” Kimmel asked. “Who do you think I voted for? I might have to come live with you!”
The exchange eventually returned to lighter ground when the two discussed Star Wars.
Luna, reprising his role as Cassian Andor, answered Kimmel’s question about who could wield the fictional Force.

“It depends. It depends who you voted for,” Luna replied with the implication that conservatives would not be able to.
Luna’s commentary comes as a real-world immigration controversy continues to escalate abroad.
Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) attempted to visit a Salvadoran prison holding Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a man deported from the U.S. amid accusations of gang affiliation and past domestic violence.
Calling Abrego Garcia a “constituent,” Van Hollen had earlier met with El Salvador’s Vice President to advocate for the prisoner’s release.
On Wednesday, after his official request to visit was denied, Van Hollen and Abrego Garcia’s attorney attempted to reach the prison on their own.
In a video posted to X, Van Hollen showed footage of soldiers halting their car near the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), saying, “These soldiers were ordered to prevent us from going any farther from this spot.”
We were just denied entry into CECOT — the notorious prison in El Salvador where Mr. Abrego Garcia is being illegally held.

“I understand we’re about 3 kilometers now from CECOT, and as you can see, they’re letting other cars go by, but they stopped us because they’re under orders not to allow us to proceed to check on the well-being of Kilmar Abrego Garcia,” he added.
The case has generated national interest, especially after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the government must “facilitate,” but not necessarily “effectuate,” Abrego Garcia’s return to the country.
Though federal officials described the deportation as an administrative mistake, White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller dismissed that claim, suggesting the situation may have stemmed from internal sabotage.

The Trump administration maintains that Abrego Garcia is affiliated with the violent MS-13 gang, which is classified as a foreign terrorist organization.
His legal team disputes the claim, though federal officials have released documentation tying him to the group.
More complications have emerged around the case, when a restraining order previously filed against Abrego Garcia accused him of assaulting his wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, although she now claims they resolved the incident.
As it turns out, Van Hollen’s trip to the prison was in vain, as Abrego Garcia was apparently not behind bars.
On Thursday evening, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele posted photos of Abrego Garcia and Sen. Van Hollen sipping cocktails in a restaurant.
“Kilmar Abrego Garcia, miraculously risen from the ‘death camps’ & ‘torture’, now sipping margaritas with Sen. Van Hollen in the tropical paradise of El Salvador!” Bukele posted sarcastically.
Van Hollen also posted an image from the visit, stating, “I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance.”

Meanwhile, Bukele has plans to double the size of CECOT, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who said he read her in when she visited last month.
“We have no plans to bring them back, this is a long-term solution,” she told the Wall Street Journal.
