The Trump administration had a hilariously blunt response to anti-American protests that erupted in Mexico City over rising rents and gentrification.
As local demonstrators took to the streets accusing American tourists and remote workers of “colonizing” their neighborhoods, the Department of Homeland Security delivered a savage comeback.
“If you are in the United States illegally and wish to join the next protest in Mexico City, use the CBP Home app to facilitate your departure,” DHS posted, linking to a Reuters article quoting a protester.
The tongue-in-cheek message came after reports of violence and vandalism during Friday’s demonstration through the Condesa and Roma districts.

The protests, which began peacefully, descended into chaos as agitators began smashing shop windows and spray-painting anti-American graffiti.
“Kill a gringo,” one vandal wrote on shattered glass, according to footage obtained by the Associated Press.
Demonstrators also held signs with slogans like “gringos, stop stealing our home” and “your new home is an invasion.”
Some protesters openly framed their opposition to foreigners in terms of anti-colonial struggle.
“Today we are fighting against gentrification,” one marcher told reporters. “That is, people coming from other countries, mostly foreigners, who want to impose their culture, their prices and displace Mexicans, the native people of these lands.”

The backlash was largely aimed at American and European “digital nomads” who moved to Mexico City in droves during the COVID-19 pandemic, seeking cheaper rents and remote work flexibility.
But the influx has since driven up housing prices and pushed out longtime residents, according to critics.
Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk noted the irony. “So now Mexicans are protesting foreigners changing their culture and driving up housing costs? Welcome to what Americans have been with for decades.”

“These violent criminals are people who Democrat lawmakers shamelessly defend and import into America,” another post read.
While Mexico battled anti-American sentiment in the streets, in Los Angeles, Democratic leadership was once again at odds with federal immigration authorities.
Mayor Karen Bass made headlines Monday after showing up to protest a coordinated ICE operation targeting MS-13 gang members in MacArthur Park.
Dozens of agents, supported by mounted officers and a DHS helicopter, surrounded the notorious hotspot early in the morning.
“They need to leave and they need to leave right now… because this is unacceptable!” Bass declared to ICE officers shortly after arriving.

She followed up on social media, accusing the Trump administration of deploying military tactics.
“Minutes before, there were more than 20 kids playing- then, the MILITARY comes through,” she posted.
“The SECOND I heard about this, I went to the park to speak to the person in charge to tell them it needed to end NOW. Absolutely outrageous.”

Reports described a chaotic scene, with protesters slashing tires on ICE vehicles and hurling projectiles at agents.
KTTV-TV confirmed the presence of armored trucks but reported no arrests were made following Bass’s interference.
Bass later defended her actions during a phone call asking, “So they’ve stopped that? They’ve completed their mission here? What’s the time frame before they leave?”

She doubled down to the press, accusing the federal government of stoking fear and chaos.
“There is no plan other than fear, chaos, and politics,” she said. “Home Depot one day, a car wash the next, armed vehicles and what looked like mounted military units in a park the next day.”
But Border Patrol Chief Agent Gregory Bovino didn’t appear fazed by the mayor’s interference.
NEW: I just spoke to Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino @USBPChiefELC, who was the official on the phone with LA Mayor Karen Bass at MacArthur Park today. I asked him for his message to her, as she demands raids end?

In a statement to Fox News’ Bill Melugin, Bovino replied, “I don’t work for Karen Bass. Better get used to us now, ’cause this is going to be normal very soon. We will go anywhere, anytime we want in Los Angeles.”
