Hollywood actress Cheryl Hines is finally speaking out about about her marriage, political backlash, and a family feud playing out in public.
In a candid sit-down with The Wall Street Journal, the Curb Your Enthusiasm star admitted she’s baffled by the outrage she’s faced for standing by her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
She has remained in lockstep with her husband through his dramatic political shifts — from leaving the Democratic Party, to running for president as an independent, to joining forces with President Donald Trump as his secretary of health and human services.
“At first, you’re thinking, Wow. Why are they so angry or disappointed?” Hines said.

“Some people can’t even, I don’t know, they can’t even talk about it. It’s really rather strange, actually.”
Her comments come after a whirlwind of personal and political controversy surrounding Kennedy, including a headline-making sexting scandal with journalist Olivia Nuzzi last fall.
The revelations surfaced just as Kennedy was pivoting toward MAGA politics, igniting rumors about the couple’s marriage.

On September 19, 2024, Nuzzi was placed on leave by New York magazine after admitting she had “engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign,” whom CNN identified as RFK Jr.
The publication later stated, “Had the magazine been aware of this relationship, she would not have continued to cover the presidential campaign.”

CNN is reporting that Olivia Nuzzi and RFK Jr’s relationship was “emotional and digital in nature, not physical.”
Nuzzi says in a statement it was not physical in nature and that she regrets not disclosing it to NY Magazine sooner.

Nuzzi denied a physical relationship but acknowledged their communications had taken on a “personal” tone.
Hines avoided addressing the alleged affair directly, instead choosing to address the public scrutiny about her marriage.
“I don’t think there’s any point to going through every rumor and headline to try to defend or explain it,” she said.

“Bobby and I talk about everything, so that’s how we move through everything, and we’re really good friends, and we trust each other.”
Her upcoming memoir, Unscripted, is said to portray their relationship in a favorable light.
“One would deduce that we love each other and are still married and whatever we’ve been through is behind us,” Hines shared.

Kennedy, for his part, downplayed the effect of controversies on their relationship.
“There is no end, and if you get caught into responding to it then it drags you into low vibrations, and the trick is to try to stay in the high vibrations,” he said.
While Hines has stood by her husband on some issues, she has not always agreed with his remarks.
In January 2022, after Kennedy suggested Holocaust victim Anne Frank had more freedom than Americans facing vaccine mandates, Hines called the comments “reprehensible and insensitive.”
My husband's reference to Anne Frank at a mandate rally in D.C. was reprehensible and insensitive. The atrocities that millions endured during the Holocaust should never be compared to anyone or anything. His opinions are not a reflection of my own — Actress Cheryl Hines pic.twitter.com/xfw3vM0rwh

Since then, her stance on vaccine debates appears to have shifted closer to Kennedy’s.
“Is science ever settled?” she asked. “Everything’s changing. Technology changes. Everything changes.”
Comparing vaccine rollouts to drug approvals, she noted, “It’s like any drug that goes on the market that at the beginning everybody thinks is great, and then 10 years later, they realize it’s causing some sort of issue. Well, there was probably settled science at the beginning.”
“I feel very connected to MAHA,” Hines added about the movement Kennedy is spearheading.
Hines also addressed her in-law Caroline Kennedy and her son Jack Schlossberg, questioning his erratic online behavior while hinting that Caroline might be too hesitant to address it.
“Her son’s behavior—I don’t even want to say anything, because anything I say, he’s going to think, he’s going to be, umm, excited that someone’s talking about him. I don’t understand what’s going on with him.”
Schlossberg, 32, is the son of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, making him a cousin by marriage to Hines’ husband.
RFK Jr. is the son of Robert “Bobby” Kennedy, brother of President John F. Kennedy.
In recent months, Schlossberg has made headlines with erratic online posts, including demanding conservative journalist Megyn Kelly show him intimate photos, taking repeated swipes at RFK Jr.’s anti-vaccine activism, and seemingly targeting Hines.

Last week, Schlossberg mocked an anniversary tribute RFK Jr. posted for Hines, replying, “What does she let you do on your birthday?” without further explanation.
In late July, Schlossberg escalated his criticism, posting a photo of Hines alongside the words, “CONGRATS !!!!” and “Most measles cases in 33 years.”
The jab referred to RFK Jr.’s long-standing opposition to routine childhood vaccinations, a stance Schlossberg has publicly condemned.

This past March, Schlossberg addressed Hines directly in an Instagram post, saying, “I need you to call up the family of the child who died of measles, and say sorry. Can you do that for me?”
He was referring to the case of a 6-year-old unvaccinated girl in Texas who died from the disease.
Schlossberg has been blunt about his disdain for RFK Jr.’s political career, calling his presidential run an “embarrassment” and questioning why anyone would believe he could win.
