President Donald Trump revealed Monday that embattled music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs personally requested a presidential pardon following his conviction earlier this year.
The president made the revelation during an Oval Office exchange with reporters when asked about whether he would consider a similar act of clemency for Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted accomplice of Jeffrey Epstein.
“I have a lot of people [who] have asked me for pardons,” Trump said. “I call him Puff Daddy, has asked me for a pardon.”
Combs, 55, was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution but acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges by a Manhattan jury earlier this year.
Trump says he'll "speak to the DOJ" about pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell.

The former Bad Boy Records founder was sentenced in October to four years and two months behind bars.
The revelation that Combs sought leniency from Trump quickly drew attention online.
Ferocious Diddy critic, fellow rapper 50 Cent mocked the situation in an Instagram post.

“Man you can’t get no pardon running ya mouth like that! LOL Get out of here,” the rapper said in reference to Combs scheduling speaking engagements outside of prison prior to his sentencing.
Trump had previously hinted in an August Newsmax interview that a pardon for Combs was unlikely, noting that the rapper’s public criticism of him over the years made the decision more complicated.
Newsmax: Sean Diddy Combs. Would you consider pardoning him?
Trump: Well, he was essentially, I guess, sort of half innocent.
What?

“He was essentially, I guess, sort of half-innocent,” Trump told reporters. “I was very friendly with him. I got along with him great and seemed like a nice guy. I didn’t know him well. But when I ran for office, he was very hostile.”
“And it’s hard. Like you, we’re human beings, and we don’t like to have things cloud our judgment,” Trump lamented.
“But when you knew someone and you were fine, and then you run for office and he made some terrible statements.”
The president acknowledged that Combs’ earlier hostility toward him could make leniency harder to justify.

“I don’t know… I’m being honest: It makes it more difficult to do,” Trump said.
In May, Trump had commented that Combs “used to really like me a lot,” adding that at the time, “nobody’s asked, but I know people are thinking about it.”
“First of all, I’d look at what’s happening,” Trump said then. “And I haven’t been watching it too closely, although it’s certainly getting a lot of coverage.”
He later observed that their relationship had soured when he entered politics. “I think when I ran for politics, that relationship busted up, from what I read. I don’t know. He didn’t tell me that [personally], but…” Trump said.

He also clarified that “if I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t like me, it wouldn’t have any impact on me.”
Meanwhile, Combs’ legal team distanced itself from the pardon effort. His lead attorney, Marc Agnifilo, said he had “literally no idea” about any request being made.
“I am not involved in that in the least,” Agnifilo said. “There are times I think there’s nothing to it, and there are times I think it’s just rumor mill stuff. But I do not purport to know the president’s mind. I really don’t know.”
Combs’ legal saga began in 2023 when his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura filed a civil lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Although the case was settled within days, it triggered a wave of similar allegations that culminated in his 2024 arrest and grand jury indictment.
After months of proceedings, jurors found Combs guilty of two prostitution-related charges while clearing him of the more serious allegations.
At his sentencing, Combs complained about conditions at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, describing overcrowding and poor living standards.
His legal team has since requested that he be transferred to a more comfortable facility.
“On behalf of Mr. Combs, we respectfully request that the Court strongly recommend a designation facility to the Bureau of Prisons in Mr. Combs’ Judgment,” read an October 6 letter from defense attorney Teny Geragos to Judge Arun Subramanian.

“In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs.”
The Fort Dix facility in New Jersey, located roughly 40 miles from Philadelphia, houses over 4,000 inmates and includes a nearby medium-security complex.
If the request is granted, Combs’ relocation would be a significant upgrade from his current conditions, where he has reportedly been sharing a crowded cell with more than a dozen other inmates.
While discussing Combs’ case, Trump also commented on the recent Supreme Court decision declining to review Maxwell’s conviction.
The president said he would need to speak with the Department of Justice before making any decisions regarding her case.
“You know, I haven’t heard the name in so long. I can say this, that I’d have to take a look at it. I would have to take a look. Did they reject that?” Trump said when asked about Maxwell.
“Well, I’ll take a look at it. I’ll speak to the DOJ,” Trump added. “I wouldn’t consider it or not consider — I don’t know anything about it. I will speak to the DOJ.”
When asked why Maxwell might deserve clemency, Trump replied that “a lot of people have asked me for pardons.”
“But she was convicted of child sex trafficking,” a reporter noted.
“Yeah, I mean, I’m going to have to take a look at it,” Trump said. “I’d have to ask DOJ. I didn’t know they rejected it. I didn’t know she was even asking for it, frankly.”
Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence after being convicted of aiding Epstein in the sexual abuse of minors.
She met privately with a top Justice Department official earlier this year amid bipartisan calls for greater transparency in the Epstein investigation.
Soon after that meeting, she was moved to a minimum-security facility for women.
