Longtime Trump critic John Legend offered the President some scathing advice about his Nobel Peace Prize ambitions.
The Grammy-winning musician posted a video to Instagram on Sunday, addressing President Trump directly after reports surfaced of global praise for Trump’s recent Gaza ceasefire negotiation.
Legend, who has a lengthy history of criticizing Trump, told the president he wanted to try “positive reinforcement” this time around, though he still managed to get plenty of jabs in.
In the video, captioned “Trump for Peace Prize 2026!”, Legend told his 16 million followers that if the president wants the Nobel Peace Prize next year, he’ll have to stop what Legend described as “dictator stuff.”

The singer begrudgingly acknowledged what he saw as progress from the White House.
He credited Trump for helping secure a ceasefire and hostage exchange deal between Israel and Hamas, calling it “a step in the right direction.”
“Let’s all pray that this deal is actually lasting, that it’s long-term,” he said. “The people of Gaza have had their lives and their communities destroyed for the past two years.”

Legend continued, noting that Trump’s mediation marked a major diplomatic move.
“If this peace is really lasting, we just might see Donald Trump get that peace prize that he really, really wants,” he conceded.
Then, in a tone that was part encouragement and part taunt, Legend added, “They give it out every year, so don’t give up, President Trump. You can still do this.”
“And guess what? Believe it or not, I want you to do this. I want this peace prize for you so badly. I want this for us, for all of us.”

However, Legend claimed the president would need to change far more than foreign policy before the Nobel Committee would ever consider him.
He said Trump would have to stop sending “Black Hawk helicopters to terrorize people while they sleep in their apartment buildings in Chicago,” referencing a recent ICE operation in Illinois.
“Yes, the so-called peace president, who’s ending wars around the world, would also have to stop declaring war on the American people,” he continued.
Legend accused Trump of “sending the military into our cities simply because they’re run by Democrats,” and of using federal agencies to “torment immigrant communities” and “prosecute political opponents on flimsy charges.”

The musician also referenced Trump’s foreign policy, telling him to “stop bombing boats in the Caribbean” and to “stop executing people without proving that they’ve done anything wrong.”
His tone became increasingly heated as he added, “He’d have to stop all this authoritarian, dictator s**t, all the fascist s**t, all the inhumane s**t he’s been trying to do.”
Legend ended his video by saying that every American should want Trump to earn a Nobel Peace Prize, “for the sake of this country and all of humanity.”
He told the president, “You have another year to work on this. It’s going to require a serious change in your governing philosophy and your behavior.”
“As a parent, I’ve learned that kids respond really well to positive reinforcement. So Donald, we’ve tried negative reinforcement — impeachment, indictments, voting you out of office — so let’s try positive,” he wrapped up condescendingly.
“Let’s promise that if you get it together, you change your awful behavior, you’re going to get that peace prize that you so, so badly desire, and I’ll be so proud of you. So proud.”
This year, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to defend democratic freedoms under Nicolás Maduro’s regime.
The announcement surprised many observers who believed President Trump would finally be recognized for his recent Middle East peace deals.

On Monday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that his government intends to nominate President Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
Sharif cited Trump’s work in securing ceasefire agreements across multiple regions, including the latest deal between Israel and Hamas.
“Pakistan had nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his outstanding, extraordinary contributions to first stop the war between India and Pakistan and then achieve a ceasefire,” Sharif said while standing beside Trump in Egypt.

“And today, again, I would like to nominate this great president for the Nobel Peace Prize because I genuinely feel that he is the most genuine and most wonderful candidate for the Peace Prize because he has brought not only peace in South Asia, saving millions of people and their lives,” he added.
“And today, here in Sharm el-Sheikh, achieving peace in Gaza is saving millions of lives in the Middle East.”
Asked for comment, the White House said in a statement, “President Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize many times over.”
A spokesperson added, “The President’s legacy is already cemented as Peacemaker-in-Chief, but as he said, he doesn’t care about the recognition — only saving lives.”
