Actor Charlie Sheen publicly took aim at his famous father after “The West Wing” denounced President Donald Trump on the same day the president secured a widely discussed Gaza peace agreement.
The “Two-and-a-Half Men” star recounted the incident during an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show, where he described the timing of his father’s remarks as inappropriate, saying he had confronted him soon after.
Charlie said that during the interview he explained to his father that selecting the day of a major diplomatic milestone to deliver a harsh critique of the president created what he viewed as an avoidable conflict.
Martin Sheen had taken aim at Trump while participating in a live recording of MSNBC anchor Nicolle Wallace’s podcast, The Best People, where he directed a series of barbs at the president.

He called Trump a “non-human” and “the biggest nothing in the world,” remarks that Charlie described as poorly chosen given the moment.
Martin Sheen, known for portraying a fictional Democratic president on “The West Wing,” used the podcast taping to address Trump directly.
“You gotta realize, sir, that you are the biggest nothing in the world,” he stated, advising him to ignore what he described as unhelpful voices around him.

The 85-year-old actor added, “Stop fussing with your hair, don’t worry about your tie, and stand up straight and speak clearly, not from your throat. Speak from your heart and start being human. That’s what you were made for — not golf.”
He concluded his message with, “So there you are, Mr. President, with all due respect, sir,” a line delivered with clear sarcasm.
Martin also criticized members of Trump’s cabinet, suggesting that individuals in the White House displayed what he considered to be vanity and a sense of self-importance.
He said the room lacked “heroes,” “music,” “laughter,” and “joy,” saying it “smells of ego and fear and false worship.”
Charlie Sheen told Kelly that he disagreed with his father’s choice of timing. He remarked, “His timing on that thing was really s***ty, man,” noting that he had directly confronted Martin about it.
He acknowledged, however, that freedom of speech applied even to statements he personally disagreed with, reflecting on a recent discussion involving Jimmy Kimmel about protecting speech rights.
He said he ultimately told his father to “own that,” even if he still believed the criticism landed at the wrong moment.

Charlie said he reminded his father that the president had just negotiated what he described as an internationally celebrated peace deal and that choosing that moment to criticize Trump created unnecessary distraction.
“I was like, ‘Dad, the timing, the timing, man. You got to read the room.’ Ya know? Because [Trump] brokers the peace deal and the entire universe is celebrating, and Dad’s with Nicole Wallace [trashing Trump’.”
He joked that Martin could have delivered the criticism “on Wednesday,” which Kelly followed by noting, “Not when we just created peace in the Middle East.” Charlie replied, “Just that, yeah!”
During the interview, Charlie explained that he had made a deliberate decision in recent years to seek out a broader range of political perspectives.
He said he had grown skeptical of what he called the “legacy media,” claiming that major outlets had contributed to what he described as a one-sided portrayal of conservatives and Trump supporters.

More of this!
“I felt really stupıd. Just some of the stuff I bought into and some of the stuff I was worshipping and some of the people I was hating because I was told to hate them.” pic.twitter.com/jTreal9Q7o

He added that he had come to believe the mainstream press functioned similar to “state-run media.”
Charlie described a lengthy period of reconsidering his political assumptions, saying, “Enough of that, I’m gonna change the channel, hear some different voices, and do the research, and the things that I discovered and the things that I really unearthed.”
He said this process extended over several months and that he felt “really stupid” when he realized he had accepted certain political narratives uncritically.
“Some of the stuff I’d bought into, and some of the stuff I was worshiping, and some of the people I was hating because I was told I was supposed to,” he pointed out.
Kelly asked Charlie whether he felt more comfortable discussing his political views publicly.
He replied that he did, saying he believed many people stay tied to the beliefs they were raised with.
“I think we all, or a lot of us, remain beholden to the structure of the house that we were raised in with politics, religion, the arts, culture,” he noted.
The younger Sheen said his upbringing reinforced ideas about “the good guys and the bad guys,” but added that his life experience, including paying substantial taxes, eventually pushed him to reevaluate long-held assumptions.
Charlie said that after Trump won the 2024 election, he decided to conduct a personal experiment to determine whether his views could shift when exposed to conservative arguments.
He claimed that he no longer wanted to go to bed each night feeling “hopeless” or hearing that circumstances were “catastrophic,” and that he chose to “change the channel” to hear different viewpoints.
“I am gonna do my own research like I’ve done with everything my entire life,” he explained.
“I’m gonna listen other voices. I’m gonna explore, just hearing both sides of the god damn story, you know?”
The actor realized he had been “hypnotized” by news coverage that he now viewed as “state-run media.”
He added that his independent research led to a series of realizations that left him feeling foolish for having accepted certain assumptions.
Charlie said that some of the individuals he had previously criticized or disliked were people he had been told to oppose.
“The things I discovered, the things that I started to really unearth,” he told Kelly.
“It was not just one of those moments, it was like months of those moments of, ‘Oh my gosh!’ And I felt really stupid.”
Later in the interview, Kelly asked Charlie about the experience of voting for Trump.
He said he had cast the vote while still wrestling internally with competing political views and told Kelly, “That’s another one of those examples where you feel stupid, I was still kind of on the other side.”
“But it’s a vote I’d like to have back,” Sheen added without elaborating on whether that meant he regretted the vote or wished he had approached it differently.
