A popular comedian blasted the Trump administration for injecting internet humor into their hard-edged immigration messaging.
Shane Gillis criticized the Department of Homeland Security for producing meme-style social media videos for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
During a recent interview on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Gillis questioned the tone of the campaign, arguing that government enforcement actions should not be packaged as jokes.
“You can’t defend it,” Gillis said during the conversation. “f–king ICE is making funny videos about deporting people. I’m like, ‘damn dude,’ that’s f–king terrible.’”
Shane Gillis: “There’s certain things the administration does where I’m just like damn you can’t defend it. ICE is making funny videos about deporting people. Illegal immigration, we should fix that. Don’t fucking make it funny. It’s a serious thing.” pic.twitter.com/pfUCkppfYs

He attempted to draw a distinction between policy debates and presentation.
“The truth, though, is like, yeah, sure, illegal immigration, we should fix that. Don’t f–king make it funny. It’s a serious thing. It’s a serious thing you’re doing,” Gillis said.
The comedian also leveled criticism at personnel involved with the agency, adding that “a lot” of those working within ICE “are obviously just weird f–king psychos, that are in that world.”
His remarks came as the Trump administration has leaned into aggressive messaging on immigration enforcement, frequently amplified across social media platforms.

Gillis has previously taken aim at Trump and his administration, often through satire.
In July, he delivered an opening monologue at the ESPY Awards that targeted figures across politics and culture, including Trump, athletes, and controversial public figures.
“Donald Trump wants to stage a UFC fight on the White House lawn; the last time he staged a fight in D.C., Mike Pence almost died,” Gillis joked during the monologue, referencing the events surrounding January 6.
He also mocked the administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

“There was supposed to be an Epstein joke here, but it got deleted, must have probably deleted itself, right?” Gillis said. “Probably never existed. Actually. Let’s move on as a country and ignore that.”
During the Rogan interview, the discussion widened beyond immigration messaging into Trump’s reshaping of the White House itself.
Rogan described newly installed plaques criticizing former presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama as excessive.
Rogan read language from the plaques aloud, including one labeling Biden the “worst president in American history.”
Another feature includes a photo of an autopen instead of a traditional portrait, paired with text accusing Biden of a “severe mental decline” and holding him responsible for “a series of unprecedented disasters that brought our Nation to the brink of destruction.”
“That’s a plaque in the White House,” Rogan said after reading the text. “This is so crazy. You shouldn’t be allowed to do this. Right?”
Rogan suggested such memorials should contain neutral historical facts rather than political attacks.
Gillis responded, “He’s not beating the dictator charges. This is like an African dictatorship.”
The two also reacted to reports that the Kennedy Center was being renamed the Trump-Kennedy Center. Rogan audibly sighed at the news.
“Oh, boy. Somebody needs to tell him, ‘Hey, this is not good. You can’t do that,’” Rogan remarked.
“Because then other people can do that too, and then the White House stops being the White House, and it becomes whoever is in its house, where he can just go crazy and say everybody else is a crook.”
Gillis said he never expected any president to govern in Trump’s style, but Rogan warned the precedent could invite similar behavior from future administrations.
“But the problem is it opens up the door for someone on the left to do their version of it,” Rogan noted.
“Who’s going to be the Democrat, who’s next? F–ing Gavin Newsom? He’s not going to f—ing put up a plaque,” Gillis replied.
Rogan disagreed, pointing out that Newsom has frequently mirrored Trump’s communication style online, often posting content meant to parody the president.
He added that Trump’s approach has reshaped expectations for political theater.
The conversation turned again when Rogan read a plaque describing Ronald Reagan as a supporter of Trump long before his “historic run for the White House.”
“That’s so disturbing,” Rogan said. “That’s such crazy thinking.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Gillis ventured into darker comedic territory while discussing the lack of Catholic presidents. Rogan asked if Gillis could imagine a future candidate fitting that profile.
Shane Gillis: “Give us a good [Catholic president].”
Joe Rogan: “You got anybody in mind?”
Gillis: “[Nick] Fuentes.”
Rogan: “He could probably win in a few years.”

“Fuentes,” Gillis replied, laughing. “Nick Fuentes?” Rogan responded, also laughing.
Rogan speculated that a figure like Fuentes, a far-right white nationalist, would not have gained similar attention a decade ago.
“There’s, like, a whole group of people that feel very unrepresented in the world and especially, like, young men,” Rogan said.
“And here you got this young guy with a very high verbal IQ and he also does a lot of s–tposting, a lot of talking s–t, a lot of trolling, says women shouldn’t be allowed to vote. Says wild s–t.”
Rogan referenced Fuentes’ recent appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” claiming the guest outperformed the host during the exchange.
“I agree,” Gillis said. “The thing that people try to get Fuentes on is that he’s still funny as f–k.”
“He’s funny,” Rogan added. “So that’s where you’re in a lot of trouble,” Gillis replied.
Piers Morgan: “I find it extraordinary that you would think that the Holocaust could ever be something we could joke about.”
Nick Fuentes: “Why, too soon?”

Rogan recalled a moment when Morgan confronted Fuentes about jokes related to the Holocaust. “Why, too soon?” Fuentes responded.
“He’s wild,” Gillis said, laughing. “You could see Piers going, ‘Aw, f–k,’” Rogan said.
“He got hit with a missile on that one,” Gillis added.
