Rosie O’Donnell resurfaced on an American red carpet this weekend and immediately went scorched-earth on President Donald Trump, calling her decades-long nemesis a “psychopath.”
The comedian made the rare stateside appearance Sunday at the Tony Awards, where she unloaded on Trump during an interview with Variety.
O’Donnell framed her criticism as old New York knowledge, arguing that people who watched Trump rise in the city saw through him long before he became president.
“If you grew up in New York, you knew he was an a–hole and a liar from day one. And I am 64 years old and my whole life here,” she began.

“So, I remember when his planes were repossessed off the runways at LaGuardia. I remember when he was broke. I remember when he would call up places and pretend to be his own publicist,” O’Donnell said.
“He is a conman. He is a narcissist. And he is a psychopath if you ask me,” she added.
The blast came after O’Donnell spent much of the past year living abroad.
President Trump just posted this on Truth Social. 🇺🇸
Has there even been someone with a more severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome than Rosie O’Donnell?
She left the country because of him… and still can’t stop talking about Trump!

Following Trump’s 2024 election victory, she moved to Ireland, later saying she had no regrets about leaving what she described as a frightening political environment in the United States.
Trump escalated the feud in July 2025 by posting on Truth Social that he was considering stripping O’Donnell of her citizenship.

“Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,” he wrote at the time.
“She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA.”
O’Donnell answered in a TikTok video that same month and insisted she was not backing down.

“I’m not that worried,” she said. “However, the Supreme Court has given him unbridled powers.”
She later told the U.K.’s Daily Telegraph that she was applying for Irish citizenship.
Q: "Ireland is known for very happy, fun loving people … Why in the world would you let Rosie O'Donnell move to Ireland?"
Trump: "Did you know you have Rosie O'Donnell? Do you know who she is?"
Irish PM: …
Trump: "You're better off not knowing."

The hostility between Trump and O’Donnell dates back nearly two decades, beginning when she criticized him while co-hosting “The View.”
The two continued trading public insults for years, and O’Donnell has said Trump uses her to energize his supporters.
Speaking on the Irish radio show “Sunday with Miriam,” she said, “He uses me as a punching bag and a way to sort of rile his base.”
Even after leaving the country, O’Donnell quietly returned to the U.S. more than once.
She told Chris Cuomo on “SiriusXM’s Cuomo Mornings” that she made a January trip home without announcing it because she wanted to see family and test how difficult it would be to come and go.
“I recently went home for two weeks and I did not really tell anyone. I just went to see my family,” O’Donnell revealed.
“I wanted to see how hard it would be for me to get in and out of the country,” she added.
“I wanted to feel what it felt like. I wanted to hold my children again. And I hadn’t been home in over a year.”
O’Donnell said she also wanted to make sure it would be safe to bring her daughter back over the summer.
“I also wanted to make sure that it was safe for me before I brought my daughter this summer, where we plan to spend the summertime off from her schooling here with my family,” she claimed.
After that visit, she described the country as feeling changed. She told Cuomo she had not been watching the news for a year and felt a different “energy” in the U.S.
“I think I did what I needed to do to save myself, my child and my sanity,” she told the former CNN star.
“There’s a feeling that something is really wrong, and no one is doing anything about it,” O’Donnell added.
She made another two-week trip back in April and later told Page Six she had returned alone the first time because she did not want anything to happen in front of her 13-year-old transgender daughter, who has autism.
“I worried the first time I came back, whether that would be problematic, and I came alone without my child, who is 13 and has autism. She’s my youngest of five,” she explained.
“I wanted to make sure that if anything happened, it didn’t happen in her presence, so it was fine — as it should be.”
O’Donnell also argued Trump cannot punish her for speaking publicly against him.
“I’m an American citizen and always will be, and he can’t really arrest American citizens without cause, and using freedom of speech is not a reason to be arrested in America.”
While O’Donnell was tearing into Trump, another former “View” co-host was defending his right to show up at Madison Square Garden.
Whoopi Goldberg said Monday that Trump deserved to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals because he is a longtime Knicks fan.
“I think anybody who’s a Knicks fan should be there,” Goldberg said. “You earned the right as a Knicks fan. I don’t have to like you.”

Her comments came after “The View” aired clips of fans objecting to both Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani attending the game. Goldberg said their politics did not matter in that setting.
“I’m sorry. Trump and Mayor Mamdani are Knicks fans and have been, they’re New Yorkers,” Goldberg said. “And … there’s nothing either one of them can do to change what’s happening in this city for this team.”
Trump had said Knicks owner James Dolan invited him to attend.
“I’ve been a Knicks fan for a long time and also a Jim Dolan fan,” Trump said. “He’s a nice guy. The answer is, yes, he’s invited me, and I’m going.”
When a fan in a clip urged both political figures to stay away from the Garden, Goldberg dismissed the idea that either one could jinx the team.
“You know what, I don’t think anything can jinx anything,” Goldberg said. “I think these guys are on a mission.”
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin warned that Trump might get blamed if the Knicks lost, while Sunny Hostin said the president could bring “bad juju.”
Goldberg urged viewers to put their energy toward the team instead.
“All we need to concentrate on is putting our energy and good energy towards them, towards the Knicks,” Goldberg said. “That’s what this is about.”
Loud boos at Madison Square Garden when President Trump was shown on the Jumbotron during the the national anthem. Some cheering too, but the boos were definitely louder.

Trump ultimately attended with his granddaughter Kai Trump, sitting near Dolan as the national anthem played.
The arena’s big screen showed Trump saluting from his suite, but boos from the crowd rang out before the feed cut back to NYPD officers holding flags on the court.
Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox said the presidential visit complicated game-day logistics.
“I think the president being here just makes it inconvenient on everybody else,” Fox said Monday. “We got, obviously, more security. We gotta send stuff early. I think our buses are a little earlier.”

“We’re getting screened like it’s TSA,” Fox added. “It’s a little inconvenient for the people that got to play, but it is what it is.”
Spurs coach Mitch Johnson took a different view, saying he was focused on the game and preferred being part of the moment.
“No, I have not felt any inconvenience or – we’ve got a big game tonight,” Johnson said. “There’s a lot going on, and I’d much rather be a part of it than not,” he added.
San Antonio went on to beat the Knicks 115-111, cutting New York’s series lead to 2-1.
