“Saturday Night Live” turned President Donald Trump’s recent compliments about men’s backsides into a joke about his sexuality, with a surprise appearance by Tom Hanks and a spoof of Nicki Minaj’s growing role in his political orbit.
Hanks returned as David S. Pumpkins for the show’s cold open before James Austin Johnson interrupted the Halloween favorite with his impersonation of Trump.
Johnson immediately referenced the president’s recent remarks about other men’s appearances, directing his attention toward the Oscar-winning actor.
“A great ass on Hanks — something that I’ve enjoyed lately admiring,” Johnson joked as Trump. “Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Just that I might be gay.”
The sketch then shifted to speculation about Minaj becoming the next White House press secretary, with new cast member Saidah Belo-Osagie portraying the rapper.
“Trump’s out here killing it — and by it, I mean my career,” Belo-Osagie cracked in character.
Johnson’s Trump also found a way to bring the conversation back to the president’s apparent interest in men’s physiques, this time while commenting on Minaj’s famous figure.

“Perhaps if it was on a man, I could admire it,” the comedian remarked.
The cold open featured another newcomer, Veronika Slowikowska, playing former White House press secretary Katie Zacharia. Her character bungled the show’s traditional opening announcement, prompting Hanks to deliver the familiar “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night.”
The same material resurfaced during “Weekend Update,” where Colin Jost questioned Trump’s priorities as the midterm elections approached.
“Your party is about to lose the midterms. Stop playing ‘smash or pass’ with each other,” Jost joked.
The material drew from Trump’s appearance at an Ohio rally, where the president was discussing Republican Sen. Jon Husted’s backside when he noticed Minaj among the attendees.
“By the way I looked at one hell of a beautiful *ss before, Nicki Minaj! That’s hard to miss! Stand up! That’s hard to miss!” Trump told supporters, prompting the rapper to stand before the cheering audience.
The exchange also caught Joe Rogan off guard when comedian Colum Tyrrell brought it up during an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
Their conversation had started with Trump’s enthusiasm for the Village People’s “YMCA,” which the two acknowledged is widely regarded as a gay anthem.
Tyrrell brought up the rapper’s support for the president and asked whether Rogan had heard about the Ohio appearance.
“You see the Nicki Minaj a*s thing going on now?” Tyrrell asked, prompting Rogan to acknowledge that he had missed the incident.
The comedian described Minaj as an enthusiastic Trump supporter, leading Rogan to question the relationship. Tyrrell suggested the rapper might be seeking publicity.
“If you’re a fan of his, he’ll take you in,” Rogan observed.
Tyrrell then recounted how Trump had complimented Minaj’s appearance and encouraged her to stand for the crowd.
“He said that?!” Rogan exclaimed, before reacting with “Oh my God! Oh my God” as Tyrrell continued.
After watching footage of the rally exchange, Rogan expressed his disbelief once more.
“That is so crazy,” the podcast host remarked.
The unusual alliance has generated speculation about an actual role for Minaj in the Trump administration.
During a Friday interview in Florida, conservative commentator Benny Johnson asked whether the president would consider appointing the rapper as his next White House press secretary.
“That’s a good idea. I’m going to think about that,” Trump replied.
The president then suggested Johnson himself might be suited to the position, asking, “How about you? You’d be pretty good, too.”
The discussion followed a video posted by White House communications director Steven Cheung featuring Minaj aboard Air Force One.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!” Cheung wrote alongside the footage.

Minaj shared the post with an American flag and a laughing emoji, but the supplied reporting did not identify an official appointment.
The rapper’s increasingly vocal support for Trump has also brought her into a public feud with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Minaj endorsed Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman before unleashing a series of attacks on Hochul Wednesday, demanding that the Democratic governor give up her seat.
“Kathy Hochul is an evil woman. The Democratic Party should forfeit her seat because even if she wins, she will be of great consequence to them,” Minaj wrote on X.
Kathy Hochul is an evil woman. The Democratic Party should forfeit her seat because even if she wins, she will be of great consequence to them. Downward spiral for her. She will not escape God’s wrath. She did not denounce evil when she had the chance.

The rapper also warned that Hochul would face divine punishment, declaring, “Downward spiral for her. She will not escape God’s wrath. She did not denounce evil when she had the chance.”
Minaj intensified her criticism after seeing footage of Hochul discussing educational opportunities for Black children in the Bronx, including children unfamiliar with computers.
“HOW MUCH MORE DO YOU NEED TO SEE & HEAR FROM THEM?!! HOW DARE YOU AS BLACK PEOPLE VOTE FOR THIS VILE WICKED CURSE OF A WOMAN?” Minaj posted.
Gov. Kathy Hochul, asked about Nicki Minaj’s beef, says she should “get outside.”

The dispute followed Minaj’s appearance at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest the previous year, where she discussed her changing attitude toward public criticism.
“Sometimes you just get tired of it, and then you realize, ‘Wait a minute, I have something inside of me that’s stronger than what’s out there,’” the rapper told attendees.
Hochul dismissed Minaj’s attacks when reporters asked about them Wednesday, suggesting the rapper needed to spend less time online and “stop going to Trump rallies.”
“Maybe she oughta get outside and get offline a little more,” Hochul responded. “And stop going to Trump rallies, it’s kinda poisoning your mind.”
